I'm a new member to the list searching for the birthplace of my paternal grandmother: HARRIETT EMILY HALE, b. Feb. 23, 1885. (She had a twin sister family members called Sadie.) She always told me she was "from" Nailbridge over Drybrook, near Harry Hill, and I assumed she was born there. However, I've not found her in that area. Her parents left Grandma with family when they first immigrated to the U.S. (Grandmother followed in 1904-05.) I'm beginning to think that she lived with family in that area but perhaps was not born there. I'm really not sure--have hit nothing but brick walls for a number of years!) I'm also looking for birthplaces and any other clues that may help me discover more about my great grandparents: JAMES ALFRED HALE--After he immigrated, he worked as a coal miner for a short time in Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania and then in Illinois where he settled permanently so I'm thinking he was a miner in perhaps the Forest of Dean area. He was born May 16, 1865. According to her death certificate, his wife, HARRIETT PRICE was born in Cinderford on March 30, 1862. Her father was JOHN PRICE (b. April, 1833). He is listed in the 1910 U.S. census as an alien in the household of James and Harriett HALE, was a widow and father-in-law to James Hale. He listed his occupation as "hostler." I'm thinking that he returned to England very soon because I've not found his name listed in any other records, and family members never recalled him or hearing anything about him. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who may be researching these names. As I mentioned, I've been hitting a brick wall for a number of years. Thank you for any assistance.
