As Glyn mentioned that there are often new subscribers at this time of year I thought I would re-state my interests: I am trying to find the links between various Ellway's and, as there are so few Ellway's in the whole of the UK (I have just written to all 27 who I found via internet Directory Enquiries!) I imagine they just have to be all related if I go back far enough, but my brick wall (or one of them!) is William ELLWAY's father Thomas JAMES (info from Parish Register entry for William's marriage). On 1 Apr 1839 when William was 20, he married Harriet DAVIS, daughter of John DAVIS, in Newland Parish Church. Born abt 1822. They had the following children: Emily. b abt 1840.; Harriett. b abt 1843; Esther. b abt 1845; 3 John (1847-); Ann. b 15 Aug 1849 in West Dean; Henry. b abt 1854; Hannah. b abt 1859; b abt 1865. Third Generation 3. John ELLWAY. Born on 28 Mar 1847 in West Dean. Buried in All Saints Church, Viney Hill, Glos. Occupation: Collier Hewer. On 8 Jan 1872 when John was 24, he married Elizabeth Ann SMITH b. 9 May 1851 in West Dean daughter of James SMITH & Caroline UNKNOWN, in Parish Church, St Mary de Lode, Gloucester. They had the following children: Caroline Elizabeth. b 20 Oct 1873, died 11 Sep 1877, 3yrs; Albert James. b 21 Mar 1874. Occupation: Collier Hewer (1901 census); Alfred William. b 14 Jun 1877; Arthur Henry. b 4 Apr 1879; Hubert Jesse. b 6 Nov 1881 in West Dean. Occupation: Railway Servant (1901 census); Sidney John, b 12 May 1884 in West Dean. Occupation: Colliery Labourer; (4) Minnie Amy (1888-); Horace (1891-1951); George Gordon. b 8 Apr 1895. Fourth Generation 4. Minnie Amy ELLWAY. b 8 Mar 1888 married George MARSHALL, son of Henry MARSHALL & Sarah JONES. Born in 1882. George died in 1903, he was 21. They had the following children: Douglas; Marjorie; Winifred 5. Horace ELLWAY. b 21 Apr 1891 in Yorkley, West Dean RDC. Horace died in The George Inn, Yorkley, Glos on 18 Dec 1951, he was 60. Buried in All Saints Church, Viney Hill, Glos. Occupation: Collier (hewer). On 25 Nov 1915 when Horace was 24, he married Margaret (Meg) Baxter SAUNDERS, daughter of Edwin James SAUNDERS & Elizabeth Murray LAING, in St Paul's Church, Parkend. Born on 24 Jan 1892 in Limehouse, Stepney, London. Margaret Baxter died on 27 Apr 1981, she was 89. They had the following children:. Edward (Ted) George Baxter (1916-2000); Joan Elizabeth (1920-1996); Female, still living (1923-) If any of these names ring any bells, I would love to hear from you.
