    1. Birts in Forest of Dean
    2. Hello to you all, I am interested in a family named Birt who lived in the Forest of Dean area of Gloucestershire during the 19th century. My ancestor, James Birt, was born c1800 in Newland, and after marrying Elizabeth James (born in Brecon) at Bedwelty in 1831, the family lived in Newland, Yorkley, West Dean and East Dean, according to the references concerning the children. The 1851 census has the family at Gibraltar, Gloucestershire, which I have not been able to locate, and I wonder if anyone could suggest where this might be? My 2Xgreat grandmother, Margaret Birt was born in Yorkley, but baptised at Parkend. from the Free BMD website I have found the death entry of a James Birt from 1866, aged 67, who I think could well be my ancestor, the registration district given as Westbury on Severn. Could anyone suggest a possible burial place for James other than Parkend? Also I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge or connections with this family? I am planning to visit the area in September. Regards, Daryl Jones.
