    1. Lane End, Coleford - photos please
    2. Chris O'Sullivan
    3. Would anyone on the list have photos of Lane End, Coleford (before, now it doesn't matter) that I could use in presenting my family history? My Howells were in the area from early 1800's till well after 1860. It would be nice to know what the place looks like. Many thanks. Chris O'Sullivan Picton, NSW (100km sw of Sydney)

    3. Hi Pete I am very interested in your William Edwards. My original Richard and Sarah Edwards no doubt had more children but so far records have only been located for 4 - Richard 1777 (emigrated Western Australia); Joseph (1778), William (1782 but died infancy); Sarah (1784). Have you looked at the marriage entry for William and Mary Lee in 1804? It is highly likely that witnesses were mentioned which might help me link into my Edwards line. Regards Chris O'Sullivan Picton, NSW (100km sw of Sydney)

Regards Chris O'Sullivan Picton, NSW (100km sw of Sydney) Hi Chris. The info I have is from the IGI, I know William & Mary had children Phoebe & Frances (got baptism records, residence Forest of Dean) but no marriage. I think I looked (WILLIAM EDWARDS Spouse: MARY LEE Marriage: 18 OCT 1804 Newent, Gloucester, England) and could not find it a while back and never carried on my search. Although not quite as far away as you are I am still reasonably far away from Glos. records office. I'll get back to you when / if I can find the records. Best Regards Peter Wayman in Stoke-on-Trent

    1. Edwards, Howell and Griffiths Research
    2. Chris O'Sullivan
    3. Hi all Its been quite a while since I last subscribed to this list (involved with other research interests) and now find myself drawn back to my ancestry from the Forest. I would like to make contact with anyone who may be researching either Edwards or Howell ancestry from the Forest. I have a web site at http://home.iprimus.com.au/raccos/ which provides an overview of these two families. My Edwards were widely spread throughout West Dean, particularly Lydbrook in the mid to late 1800's. The Howells were originally from Newland ca 1770 but more predominantly from Lane End near Coleford in the early to mid 1800's. In fact, there is evidence that most of the 7 Howell families on the 1851 census of Lane End were related, so if you have an interest in these families, please contact me. I am particularly interested in a family called Griffith - Sarah Edwards married Edward Griffiths 12 May, 1811 at Newland. Two known children were Thomas 1812 and John 1814. Sarah represents a missing line of Edwards and I would be very interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in this surname. Regards Chris Picton, NSW (100 kms s.w. of Sydney)

    1. 1841 Kingstanley, Stroud Lookup Rec'd WALKLEY
    2. Joanne's Genes
    3. Just wanted the lists to know that I received a reply to this request. Thanks again for reading! Also, if anyone has any Walkley/Yerzzley ancestors in their trees maybe drop me a line as the information I have is a bit lacking. My Joseph Walkley passed away before the 1841. He married Harriet Alldridge. I think his father is Thomas Walkley and mother Sarah (yet to be proven) but have no hard proof. I think his brother's were Aaron, Samuel and Charles (yet to be proven). Regards, Joanne Hi, I was wondering if anyone had the ArchivedCD books version of the 1841 census for Gloucester as I would dearly love the transcription of the family of WALKLEY's that reside on the pages mentioned above. If you can create an image file and send it to me that would be even better, I do so like to see the actual page of containing my tree people (press print screen button and paste image into a graphics program and create a jpg or gif) Part of the family is on Folio 37 page 15 but only the tail end :-O) The file ref for on my cd's for folio 36 was 370-05 but I'm not sure how that translates to other cd sets. Unfortunately the 1841 Census CD set that I purchased from a different company is missing the pages that appear to have some of the WALKLEY's on them and I've been waiting more than six months for them to rectify the problem. 1. HALE of Ruardean
    2. James Evans
    3. Dear List, I am looking for any other descendants of Aaron HALE, freeminer and yeoman of Ruardean (c.1670-1727) and his wife Elizabeth JORDAN whom he married in 1695. I already have an extensive collection of material relating to this family but I would like to add the lines of descent of as many other descendants as I can find - and I know there must be many! I descend from Aaron's son John but he also had sons Aaron junior and Isaac. If you have Ruardean HALEs in your tree but haven't got this far back yet then email me anyway and I'll see if I can connect you to the tree. TIA. Best wishes James Phillips-Evans

    1. NELM's DNA = VIKING ? And what about the MALLARDS?
    2. Gordon T. Holmes.
    3. Hello, Seven months ago I sent an Email about a theory I had heard that the NELM'S clan were originally Viking Farmers who had settled along the banks of the River Severn in Somerset and Gloucestershire. I had a few Replies, from People like me, with NELM's Ancestors. A few people informed me they were either waiting for their DNA results or were planning on having the test done in the near future. Perhaps part of the FOD scheme. Therefore, I was wondering if any NELM'S People had found good evidence of Viking Blood after all? Also, any other Race/Tribe such as Saxons, Celts etc. The only clue so far in my Family for Viking Blood is, one of the Niece had perfectly white hair when she was very young but it now has more of a leaning towards light ginger. Also, due to having MALLARD Ancestors as well, it would be very interesting if anyone knows of their DNA origins? Thank you, Gordon. 1. Burial records
    2. kathryn perkins
    3. Hello all I wonder if someone could give me some advice on burial records please. I visited the Forest of Dean this past weekend and called on the villages and towns that my ancestors lived in (Cinderford, Yorkley and Oldcroft). I visited some of the graveyards in these areas armed with my camera hoping to be lucky enough to find some of my ancestors graves even though I didn't have a clue where they were buried! I'm hoping to visit again in a few months time and would like to be more prepared. I know the dates of deaths of my ancestors (I have the death certs) but don't know what what graveyards they're in. I understand that my ancestors, the CHARLES'S, from Yorkley and Oldcroft are probably at Viney Hill or Parkend and my COOPERS from Cinderford and Ruspidge could be at St. John's but how would I find out for sure? Do I contact the churches direct or are there any transcribed burial charts with the records office or Family history society? I appreciate any help or advice offered.
