    3. Hi all, Thought it about time you were brought up to speed with what has been going on behind the scenes. David Watkins is presently working on the interface for the new web page and is doing an EXCELLENT job. I am sure you will be pleased with the end result. Very shortly you will be able to search the interests of other FOD researchers on David's web site. This will enable all of us to search on a variety of fields which will "hopefully" put us in touch with others interested in similar surnames, locations etc. Submissions will be received and processed by me and subsequently uploaded by David onto the site. Diane Hale from Bath, England has offered her services and at this stage looks like being involved with the postings for the Research Lookups. Thank you Diane. Please don't post anything just yet. As soon as David's web page is ready, I will let you know. Regards Chris

    3. Hi All Firstly a big thank-you for the Jenkins and Davis data - the 1871 data is particularly helpful. Re Sarah Davis .... My great grandmother Sarah Hannah Jenkins birth cert gives her parents as Shadrach Jenkins and Sarah nee Davis. From the census data I have been looking for a Sarah Davis born about 1827 in Bream Woodside (as given on 1881 census).. The birth cert (30 May 1870) gives place of birth as Bream. From what you say the 1830 Sarah does seem to fit your data better - which is good as the 1827 Sarah is the one I was thinking was possibly my gg-grandmother. Unfortunately the Park End church records are not on IGI. Infact there are no IGI references to Shadrach Jenkins, nor on FreeBMD either. This marriage of Shadrach to Sarah is one I need to find - though as both Sarah's have a father William, coal miner, it will not fix the mother. This partic line of research is to chase my maternal line so I do need to fix Sarah's mother. Any ideas about how I could do this? Thanks again Janet Howell gensearch wrote: >Hi All! > >Just adding my DAVIS interest: > >SARAH DAVIS was the maiden name of my 2xGGrandmother on her daughter's >her birth certificate in 1864 > >I am trying to locate the marriage of SARAH DAVIS to JOHN JAMES, >probably around 1856/7 (first child bn 1857) although the marriage could >have taken place up to several years earlier. > >I have SARAH and her JAMES family on the 1861 and all subsequent census' >in PILLOWELL her ages imply a birth around 1830/1 > >I have 2 possible baptisms for a SARAH DAVIS at PARKEND, although the >1830 fits better age-wise > >DAVIS SARAH bap 3/10/1830 d/o WILLIAM & SARAH, YORKLEY, COAL MINER >DAVIS SARAH bap 13/5/1827 d/o WILLIAM & MARY, BREAMS EAVES, COAL >MINER > >I have tried to "cross-reference" all the local DAVIS families on the >1851 with the baptisms from Parkend but had little success in matching a >likely family - it appears that Sarah DAVIS was most likely a "servant" >in Aylburton in 1851 and not living at home with her family. > >If anyone could throw any light on this problem I will be forever >grateful! > >Best wishes > >Angela Gibson >Sydney, Australia > > > >==== ENG-GLOS-FOREST-DEAN Mailing List ==== >list owner can be contacted on kinetahill@hotmail.com please state mailing list in subject. thank you > >============================== >Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration >Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 3. Hi All! Just adding my DAVIS interest: SARAH DAVIS was the maiden name of my 2xGGrandmother on her daughter's her birth certificate in 1864 I am trying to locate the marriage of SARAH DAVIS to JOHN JAMES, probably around 1856/7 (first child bn 1857) although the marriage could have taken place up to several years earlier. I have SARAH and her JAMES family on the 1861 and all subsequent census' in PILLOWELL her ages imply a birth around 1830/1 I have 2 possible baptisms for a SARAH DAVIS at PARKEND, although the 1830 fits better age-wise DAVIS SARAH bap 3/10/1830 d/o WILLIAM & SARAH, YORKLEY, COAL MINER DAVIS SARAH bap 13/5/1827 d/o WILLIAM & MARY, BREAMS EAVES, COAL MINER I have tried to "cross-reference" all the local DAVIS families on the 1851 with the baptisms from Parkend but had little success in matching a likely family - it appears that Sarah DAVIS was most likely a "servant" in Aylburton in 1851 and not living at home with her family. If anyone could throw any light on this problem I will be forever grateful! Best wishes Angela Gibson Sydney, Australia

    3. Not a lot of solid info to go on yet, but interested in Charles NELMES who emigrated from Glos to Springfield, MA in 1870. He said he was from Berkeley, with parents James and Jane NELMES. I have found a likely Charles and siblings baptized in Abinghall (with father James a wood collier, sometimes of Abinghall, sometimes of "the forest", his brother said he was born in Mitcheldean, and a likely Charles is in the 1861 census as a servant on a farm in Flaxley. So I am learning about the Forest as I go. Charles married a Mary Ann DREW who came from Glos in 1873, almost immediately before their marriage date. I have collected quite a few NELMESes and DREWS and would be glad to share info. I received several pieces of information regarding Jeffs in Lydney and nearby towns that fit my family and this has been a great help to me. I still live in hope that someone who visits the local family history center will look have the time to note this census return for me. Thank you "S" for all your help. Yardsley-USA

    3. What I think are my Davis's are on 1851 West Dean William Davis , 75, b. Kemple/Remple Mary, 63, b. Newent Sarah, 24, b. West Dean Caroline grand daughter, 7, b. West Dean This is from the online transcription I found on IGI that a Caroline Davis was baptised at St James, Bream in 1843, mother Sarah, no father given. I have not found Sarah's baptism. I think this Sarah Davis later marries Shadrach Jenkins and has further children before moving to SoT. I am now looking for more evidence. I have not suceeded yet in finding the above marriage - assumed to be after 1851 and before 1857 when son John is born.(I have his birth cert). I have census entries for 1881 and 1891 but earlier entries might help to give further children. Janet Howell VCATKINSON@aol.com wrote: > My Davis's are in Yorkley in 19c...... what are yours?!

I am researching the Birt family who lived in and around the Forest of Dean areas from 1880 to c1870, my ancestors were James Birt (born c1800) and Elizabeth James (born c1810), who had a number of children born between 1833 and 1850. 1. Jeffs in Lydney
    2. Yardsley Macpherson
    3. Hello listers, I'm new to this list although a long-time member of other Rootsweb lists, I haven't a clue about the places in Gloucestershire. I used UK Villages, via Google to try to get a "feel" of the place. Here's hoping I can learn things. I am looking for one of my JEFFS who stray from his birth county of Shropshire in the late 1800's. His name is William Percy JEFFS, born in Baveney Wood, Neen Savage, Shropshire ( near Kinlet, where his parents were born). I have his birth and marriage certificates ( born June 21, 1876) and married to Rosa May South on November 28th, 1900. I located William, Rosa and a May Jeffs (also born Kinlet, but can't place her yet) through the index available on the 1901 Pro site. All 3 are in Lydney, Glouc., but I don't know the address or the ED. William is listed in the index as born in Kinlet. He is 24 and a groom; his wife Rosa is said to be born in Herefordshire Western and is 22; May Jeffs is 51. Is it possible that someone with access to the 1901 Census for Lydney would send me the full entry for this family? Thank you for your patience in reading this, Yardsley Macpherson-USA
