Dear Everyone Thank you very much, those who replied to the above request. I hope I have thanked you all individually as well.I've never come across such a friendly, helpful list before. I am a bit worried that I could not find Daniel aged 10 on Ancestry.com, but I have learned a valuable lesson- look at another data base! Have now got to the late eighteenth centry with Dorrington, it's Hatton's turn today. Steve, like you I have been looking for a whole family in 1901 I can't find on any database. Frank (or Francis I suppose) Kelly , mother Mary Ann, father Patrick aged 1 in Bristol. However, I've also done some indexing and I know how fatally easy it is to leave things out. Also, I guess some people just didn't want to be censused and were quietly not at home! Best wishes and my repeated thanks Clare
Hi Clare I have Dorrington's in my family and they were born in St Briavel's in the Fof Dean. Which part of the Forest were your's born in as you do not say? As it is late, I will dig mine out tomorrow and have a look at what I have to see if it ties in with you. Like Clare, I have also been unable to find an ancestor on the 1901 census. My wife's grandfather William John BAKER was born in November 1898, but despite many attempts, using every variation of his name that I could think of, I cannot find him (he would have been aged 2). His parents and siblings are listed, but not William. All his documents (birth, marriage and death) confirm the date of his birth. Could he have been forgotten? Or maybe registered with another family, and given the wrong surname? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.....Steve >From: RosalindtheFair@aol.com >To: ENG-GLOS-FOREST-DEAN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [FoD] DORRINGTON and HATTON >Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2004 05:46:10 -0400 > > >Hello Listers > > I have just joined and lloking for information about the above >families. Hello Listers I have just joined and lloking for information about the above families. I have found Daniel Dorrington's birth in Mar 1891 but cannot find him on 1891 or 1901 census. And I can't find anything about his wife Annie HATTON, born 1893. They were both Forest if Dean folk, born, lived and died there so it is said. He was a miner. I have looked on the F of D Local History page. The only miner with the right surname I can find on the 1901 census is Edward Dorrington, hewer underground and his son Edward, belt boy. There is a 12 year old Henry but no 10 year old to be Daniel. It would be wonderful if anyone knows or is related to this family. I am searching for a friend whose wife was Wynona Dorrington. Clare
