Hi Bill: Just noticed your bit about the GWILLIAM connection. We lived near a family of GWILLIAM's in a lane off Joyford hill. I think it would be somewhere near where the Lonk is today. Dad worked at Cannop pit and we rented a cottage off Mr GWILLIAM for 4/6 a week. (I have the rent book.) I realize that there were a lot of GWILLIAMs in the Forest, but thought that this might be your Grancher or a relative. Would SKS be willing to help with a search for a marriage at Cirencester RO? I am looking for a marriage between....... Samuel GOODWIN and Charlotte M ????? The 1881 census gives her as married, age 24 and born in Cirencester - with 2 daughters, aged 2 and 1 years old. I would think they could not have married until 1877/8 when she was 21 years? Samuel was born in Rocester Staffs in 1854, fathers name was John and he had been both a railway worker and later a master butcher! Samuel was listed as a railway clerk in the 1881 census TIA Regards Anne Suffolk UK

Hi Listers, does anyone out there have any info on a Lucy (Dally) of East Dean, born 1827/29? She married a William Dally from Ross On Wye, born 1817/19, son of James and Elizabeth Dally. William and Lucy moved to Beaufort, Brecon, sometime before the 1851 census, then on to Porth, Glamorgan in time for the 1881 census. I'm trying to find her maiden name. Unfortunately, Lucy appears to be a very common name around that time in East Dean!! Perhaps someone has come across her on their genealogical travels! Any advice/help gratefuly appreciated. Thanks, Gwyn Dalley, Southend On Sea _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Hello, I'm searching for my ggg grandfather James WHITE b 1815 in Gloucester. On the 1871 Census he is living in St Pancras, London having married Ellen b 1827, in Deal, Kent. His occupation is a Baker. I've had a look through the archive messages this evening. I realise that the name WHITE, is quite popular in this area. So if anyone is curious about James's descendants, please contact me on [email protected] Thankyou Susie
Hello all, I am interested in the HARRIS family of Whitecroft, West Dean. 1851 census details are: Lower Row, Whitecroft. Nimila HARRIS 45 u Seamstress. born Woolaston. William do son 17 u Coal miner. born Blakeney. Alfred do do 10 b. Whitecroft. (My g.grandfather.) Calib do do 7 do Alfred HARRIS married Elizabeth MORTIMER of Bristol, at Stratford on Avon in 1865. On his marriage certificate he gave his father as William HARRIS. The 1851 census suggests Nimila the mother was unmarried . Perhaps they both bore the same surname. I have checked with the IGI without success. I have applied to the Registrars for certificates but without success. They say that their records were bomb damaged in the 2nd world war. In 1891, Alfred HARRIS and his family lived at Chapel Hill, Whitecroft, for which I have details, likewise the 1881 census. One of his youngest was Caleb born 1879, my grandfather. Caleb moved to the Rhondda Valley , Treherbert, to mine the coal fields. He died there 1940, a year after my birth to his son, Glyndwr. My brick wall is Nimila HARRIS, her perhaps husband, lover, William HARRIS, and their offspring. Does anyone know where I can purchase the 1861 and 1871 census returns for Whitecroft and their reference numbers? Is it possible to purchase the BMD fiche ? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from Jocelyn GRIFFITHS, nee HARRIS, now of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.

Can anyone help with a small problem relating to Alvington? In 1946 the wife of Roy WORKMAN - nee Hildegarde Mary Elizabeth LEWIS, married 20 August 1925, daughter of John Joseph LEWIS - said that her grandfather and his brother had been morris dancers at Alvington. I've hit a brick wall trying to find the marriage of John Joseph LEWIS, and thus push back the family to the necessary generation. >From information given, my best instincts tell me that Mrs. Workman's grandfather was probably John HOWELL, buried 4 June 1912, aged 88. I don't find a baptism, however. There is a James HOWELL, baptised 7 April 1822 to Ellen, 'single woman', who may be James' brother. I would be delighted (and grateful) if anyone can make the link.
