Greetings: Looking for info re Henry NICHOLS and family. Henry was the branch manager for the Herefordshire County Banking Co in Coleford in 1839. Although there were other children the only one I have been able to locate is David Andrew NICHOLS b 1844. The family lived at Rock House, Newland St, Coleford in 1840. But seem to have disappeared after 1850. Any information re this family would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Pat Ziegler, Western Australia.

Hi Lorraine , You may find this a useful site. I have ordered wills from Glos RO, and they are not as expensive as £5. They work out at about £1 per sheet, one will I ordered was 3 pages, so cost me £3. Whatever you order, they will send you an estimate of cost first. You can also search the gaol registers. http://www.gloscc.gov.uk/pubserv/gcc/corpserv/archives/groWebSearch.htm Good Luck & best wishes....Hazel

Hello listers. Does anyone on the list have access to the Calendar of Wills post 1858 of the Principal Probate Registry? I hate to write to York and fork over £5 (which is more than double in CDN $) if there isn't a will, so I'd like to check the index first. The person I am looking for is Edward JONES who died at Upper Bilson, Cinderford, Gloucestershire on 10 Jan 1894 aged 78. He was a "tinman" or tin plate worker. I think its not very likely there would have been a will, but you never know... Would some SKS mail mail off list who might be willing to look this up? Thanks so much. Apologies if some of you get this request twice on both Gloucs and FoD lists. Good hunting everyone, Lorraine

Hi Listers I am a new member and am searching for a ghost town, alledgedly in Gloucestershire. My grandmother, Sarah Ann SMITH, was, according to the 1881 Census, born in1854, in Halford, Gloucester. As I cannot find any trace of Halford in Gloucester has anyone any suggestions as to her birthplace? Was it a village that has disappeared into the ether or have the county boundaries been moved since 1854? The only ones listed on the O.S.Map are in Shropshire and Warwickshire. HELP! Josi Kemper
Hello everyone, Our FHC is re-opening this week and I want to order the 1891 census on microfiche for Upper Bilson, Cinderford. There is no FHL catalogue listing for Cinderford census. There *is* a listing for East Dean. For 1891 the listing is: 1891 RG 12/2004 (4 fiches) FHL BRITISH Fiche 6097114 1891 RG 12/2005 (3 fiches) FHL BRITISH Fiche 6097115 1891 RG 12/2006 (4 fiches) FHL BRITISH Fiche 6097116 Can anyone help me narrow down which piece roll covers Cinderford? Or should I order them all? Thanks for your help. Good hunting, Lorraine Victoria, BC Canada

Hi Listers, I am searching for my grandfather Henry Jason Owen HARRIS b. 1875. This might be him listed on the following 1881 Census. Is it possible to find out if he was still at that address for the 1891 census? I would be grateful for any information. Dear Hazel Sorry about the attachments,, don't know where they are coming from. I have asked everyone in my address book if they are getting the same thing. Will let you know. As I said in my last email to you, I don't know Mr Bradley's first name because I haven't really got that far down the line yet, I have been concentrating on Adelaide's second marriage to my gggrandfather and trying to find his birth and death. Regards Maria Perth WA
Hi Maria, Please reply regarding your BRADLEYs through the list. Thankyou. I now have 3 emails from you with attachments unopened, which I am now going to delete. :-( :-( Best regards Hazel
Dear Hazel Thank you for your email. I remembered you from a few months back when I was looking for my ggrandfather's birth, Elmes Bradley COOKE but never even thought about his mother having a connection with your Bradleys. From what I can gather so far, Adelaide BRADLEY was born approx. 1829 to Mr BRADLEY and his wife, Elizabeth nee WOOLF, in Ruardean Woodside. She married John NELMES around 1850 or so as they were living with her mother on the census. Adelaide was a dressmaker and he was a coal miner. She has also been recorded elsewhere as Adeline, if that is any help. She is Adeline on the 1851 census but Adelaide on the 1881, by which time she had lost two husbands, the second being my gggrandfather, Elmes COOKE. Do you have any records of a WOOLF entering your camp at all? It would seem that she was born in 1788, in Ross, so I would hazard a guess at a wedding around the turn of the century? From the gap in ages, I would say that Adelaide/Adeline may have had quite a few older siblings as she was 22 when her mother was 63 (1851 census), perhaps you have some other BRADLEYS that may have a connection there? Very Interested to hear from you with anything you think may be linked. Hi Maria, I have just read your email to Gordon re: Nelms, and very excited, as Adelaide BRADLEY will almost certainly be an ancestor of mine. I am a descendant of BRADLEYs of Ruardean, but don't actually have Adelaide in my family tree. Would love to know if you have any more ancestors of your gg grandmother, to see which branch she belongs to. In return, I will have loads of information to share with you, and this means that we are probably very closely related. !! Looking forward to hearing from you, and working together on this line. Best Wishes.......Hazel (nee BRADLEY) in Somerset, UK
