Hazel, Sounds like ron is telling others not to tell others... Here is my 'FoD' family but I believe we may have originated around Cold Ashton - I'm looking. In any case, my dads half-sister is married into the Bradleys - have you any information regarding the link there? See what you can make from this please...anyone? All I THINK I know as of 1/10/2001 JOSEPH CARPENTER d abt. 1879-1913 (i)Pittsburgh Home for Sailors, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. (ii)Pennsylvania, near Cold Ashton, Gloucestershire COLLIER father of: *from this point we're in the Forest of Dean - East Dean possibly but I've had no luck with the '81 census.... EDWARD JOHN CARPENTER b 2/1/1879 - 7/7/1946 linked to ALICE CARPENTER b 23/11/1901 (sister or 1st child by 1st wife) married(2):ANN VICTORIA JAMES on 21/12/1913. His father JOSEPH was deceased according to the marriage certificate. father of: WILLIAM EDWARD HENRY CARPENTER b 21/9/1914 - 9/5/1993 married: (1)DOROTHY HOLDER; (2)IVY WEYMAN Children of Bill & Dolly: KEITH EDWARD b 2/7/1934 - 20/5/1992 REX d 16/8/1977 Children of Bill & Ivy: DAPHNE JOSIE JANET BRENDA EDWARD JOHN GILLIAN * one of the Bill & Ivy's daughters is married into the Bradley's... I'm Keith's boy. On my birth certificate it states my Dad was born in East Dean. Rex is dead & everyone else on that limb. I'm stuck because the information I'm receiving from Bill & Ivy's mob is inaccurate. Still looking but toward the Sth GLS area now thanks to Linda's info on Mitcheldean links. Thanks to all for your help. All the men were colliers,... itchy feet like my Dad? Where was JOSEPH born? Steve Carpenter B.M.H. Hi listers In response to Hazel's request here are the names I am interested in! RUDGE,earliest George b Ruardean in 1815,he married Ann JONES (b East Dean) in the late 1830's Children George,Richard,Tom,John and Mary. PREDDY,PRIDY,PRIDETH,PREADY and various alternatives going way back to Richard PRIDDETH in 1635 in and around FOD,(I had some help with this lot,I was lucky enough to find a distant 'cousin' who had already done the research!) Richard RUDGE married Martha PREDDY in 1867 in Flaxley and then they moved to Normanton in Yorkshire. Interesting and fun website: http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/ for contacting old school chums! regards Simon
Hi All I agree with Hazles recommendation, (putting names & dates etc in subject title), which I think is a good idea, and if anyone has any suggestions, they would like to make please feel free, as I like to here your comments about the list. I have just started to revamp my web site, and I will be compiling an ASP Database, what I would like todo is make available as much information as possible on the area, Gedcom files, any links, basically I want the researchers to be able to login, up load information, down load. In other words it will be your database, for yours and others use. So if you have any ideas on what should be included let me know!Thank You Kineta Hill List Admin [email protected]
Hi Simon, I say, we are a boozy lot in f-o-d, this is 4 of us in a row tonight!!, and in this pub we have RUDGE and PREDDY...and a BRAIN for Kinita, Sue & Melanie.!! :-) Heywood Inn, 32 Heywood Road At the end of Heywood Road at the sharp bend as it enters Woodgate Road. Number 32 Heywood Road in 1939 directory. The pub overlooked Bilson Green and the Northern United colliery and railway sidings, etc. A rateable value of £20 per year in 1891 and 1903. Although it was owned by Ind Coope & Co. in 1903 it must have changed ownership to Chetenham Original / West Country Breweries at a later date. 1n 1989 (23rd March) the Gloucester Citizen reported: 'Whitbread Flowers have bade a fond farewell to licensee Mary Wynn (77) who is retiring from the Heywood Inn, Cinderford, after more than 50 years behind the bar. Simon Ellicott, Whitbread Flowers area manager, presented Mary with a barometer on behalf of the company." The Heywood must have closed soon after Mary Wynn retired. It is now a private house. A West Country Ales ceramic plaque can be found at the rear of the building. (in Heywood Road) 1869 George Rudge 1878 William Critchley 1881 John Preddy 1891 John Bennett 1891 Milson Huzzy. Beerhouse. (owner W. Critchley) 1891-1897 John Russell 1899 Mrs Russell 1903 John Russell. Beerhouse. Ind Coope & Co., Burton on Trent 1910 Levi Brain 1935 Sydney Howells 1939 George Richards 1989 Mary Wynn Good Luck with your research. Hazel

Hi Steve, Thanks for your email, but unfortunately I don't recognise any of your names at the moment. You will need to get back to the late 1700's to meet up with mine. My first BRADLEY with f-o-d address was Moses BRADLEY and he was born 1797, his descendants are all around Monmouthshire. I have plenty of Moses ancestors, around the Ruardean area, but you haven't reached that far yet, as soon as you have, please let me know. Keep in touch. Cheers...Hazel
----- Original Message ----- >> From: [email protected] (Ron Newland) To: [email protected] Hi Hazel You are breaking the first rule. Don't tell others what to do, if you are not the list owner. Ron << Hi Ron, Well, in spite of your comments, the response has been tremendous, people have certainly been following my recommendation, and putting names & dates etc in subject title. I receive 100 postings + a day through Bristol & Somerset List alone, and not one person was against the idea, only loads of thankyou's for suggesting it, so I feel I did the right thing. I feel it is people like me who keep these lists going, and helping each other is what it is all about. So I have put my Gloucestershire names below, to see if you can help me with any of them. Good Morning Listers, As this is a topic for discussion on Bristol & Somerset List at moment, I am sending this to Gloucester, Bristol & Somerset, ENG-F-O-D, Monmouthshire, WLS-Radnor, WLS-Brecon, ENG-SOM-FROME, ENG-Hereford Lists, hopefully this will be sufficient to remind people on these lists, to be more descriptive in their subject titles, so that their postings don't get deleted before being read, which obviously means they may miss out on a fellow researcher with same Surname interest contacting them. Also, I find, when in my Filing Cabinet, the subject title is the first thing I see, and it is so much easier to refer to an old email, rather than wade through 20 to find the correct one.!! So come on Listers, please play the game, and put your SURNAME in the subject title, or the Parish NAME of transcriptions, or whatever. These are only a few Examples of the WRONG "Subject Title", and this is in just 2 days!! Re: New Parish Transcripts.. why not...."GODNEY Baptisms" 1851 Look-up....of whom? Put the name in also Holy Trinity Cemetery....No Name! PLEASE HELP New Lister My Surnames New Subscriber PR Entries Family Interests New to List 1871 census look-up Re-posting my interests 1796 Marriage Newbie to List Update to website......Why not.. "Westcountry England Website" Street Indexes Jones research.... Where? a Name like this needs an area!! Hopefully, this will be sufficient to get the message over to these Lists. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Have a Nice Day. Hazel

My husband's ancestors frequently changed their names between PROUT and POWELL. Any ideas as to why they should do this? Any info on any possible connections would be welcome. Mary Newland, Oxford [email protected]
