Hello. I'm looking for James WHITE, confectioner and baker, born circa 1815, in Gloucester. James married Esther GRIFFITHS in London, St Pancras. James's father was William WHITE, who was a PARISH CLERK. I would love to know if anyone comes across this gentleman, as he is my gggg (give or take a few) grandpa. This info is all I have, and it is from the census 1881, and James's marriage cert. Many thanks Susie Bunker [email protected]
Hi I have recently made progress with my MILLINER line thanks to the 1901 census. I have William MILLINER born between 1817 and 1824 (depending on which census you look at!) Bath, Somerset and Emily HAWKINS born 1834 Newnham. They married in 1851 (marriage cert in post) Their children were William born 28 Apr 1852 Ruspidge (my great grandfather) Emily William George Emma James Isaac Sarah A Annie Selina Emily's parents were William HAWKINS (born approx 1800) and Emily ? (born approx 1805) both born in East Dean Their children were Emily (my 2xg grandmother) John William Richard David George If anyone has information on these families or can make a connection I would love to hear from them Kind regards Marcia Jewell Crudwell, Wiltshire
On the 1851 census Caroline BALDWIN was living at Bream Woodside with her mother Frances. In the house was a lodger George JENKINS aged 20 who gave his place of birth as Bath. Caroline subsequently married a George JENKINS but on the census there is another of the same name who also lived at Woodside with his sister Jane (28) and father John (73). This second George was said to be 19 so Caroline could have married either of them. If anyone can tell me which I would be very grateful. John
Hello Pat: May not be any connection but my maternal grandfather was Enoch Charles Lane, born Little Fordhouse Newent in 1887. He and my grandmother farmed in Mitcheldean but there was some talk about a connection with Chepstow and my Mother used to visit there. His parents Timothy Lane and Emily Minchin lived at Little Fordhouse, Newent, but I have not been able to trace where Timothy was born. I'll keep your name on file and if anything turns up let you know. Pearl Ager, Western Australia. Researching: Boughton, Birt, Lane, Minchin, Dickinson in Forest of Dean. Hi David: I have a link with the Meek family. My Grandmother's sister Nora Boughton married a Tom Meek 3rd January 1920. Both families lived on Harry Hill (Harrow Hill) Drybrook and Tom and Nora were still living in Mormon Close Drybrook at their Diamond Wedding in 1980. There are thirteen Meeks listed in the Holy Trinity Church, Drybrook, burials 1817-1839 let me know if you want this information. There are no Trotters listed in the burial records for this period. Can anyone out there help me with the following? I am seeking to find a connection between these two families: 1. WILLIAM SQUIRES, born abt. 1788 who married Hester ?, born abt. 1784. They had a son called MATHEW SQUIRES, who was married to MARGARET MITCHELL, both born abt. 1816. They in turn had at least one son who was called ELAM, born abt. 1846. Mathew and family emigrated to Australia in 1849 at which time his parents were living at Westerleigh, Gloucestershire. 2. WILLIAM SQUIRES who married EMMA HOPTON (no dates known unfortunately) who had a son called ELAM SQUIRES who was born on June 13 1856, at which time the family was living at Frampton Cotterill, Gloucestershire. This second ELAM SQUIRES was my maternal g-grandfather and I wish to establish if the two Elams are just a coincidence or is it another example of my family tradition of naming offspring after their grandparents? Incidentally, there is another possible member of one or other of these families called CALEB SQUIRES. David.
My g-g-grandfather Charles ALLEN b. Hartpury 1813, lived in Hartpury in 1841, Upleadon in 1851 and 1861, and Dymock in 1881. He was a labourer/butcher/small farmer. Can anybody help me find him in 1871? His wife's name was Sarah; she died some time between 1861 and 1881. Any suggestions/assistance welcome. Thanks Esther in California [email protected]
Hi All; My brick wall: Benjamin HUMPHREYS, wife Esther ?: parents of Elinor (Eleanor) born 1828 and christened/baptised "Parish of Awre, Chapelry, & Blakeny, County of Gloucester" and married 1847 at St. Martin's, Worcester to William Howarth. The page I purchased from Glos RO has two marriages in addition to the one I ordered. Thomas WALBY, widower of the Parish of Whitchurch, Herefordshire and Margaret JENKINS, spinster of this parish. 22 February 1815. In the presence of James JENKINS and Elizabeth BETTERTON. William HARRIS and Susan GRIFFITHS both of the Hundred of St Briavels. 12 November 1815. In the presence of Thomas GRIFFITHS and Anne GRIFFTHS. Hope these are useful to someone! Regards, John
One of my ancestors - William Lancey BLACKMORE - gave his birthplace (in the 1881 census) as the Forest of Dean. This interesting as the IGI places his christening in Worcester in 1848. William was a furnace-man by trade - his father was John Lancey Blackmore, his mother was Diana. If anyone can shed any light on this matter, or point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. I am trying to find out more about the PROUT family - my earliest ancestor is James Prout who married Elizabeth Edwards on 17/6/1816 at Lydney. His son George Prout who was bapt at Lydney on 21/1/1821 married Amelia Williams a widow formerly ROBBINS. George was a woodcutter and had children Elizabeth 1850 followed by Harriet 1852, James 1856, Emma 1858 and William 1863. I would appreciate any help or information on this family. dear Listers Just subscribed. For 3 years I have been researching the Lane family from somerset on a chance comment by a member of the family. today I have received 2 letters from 'long lost' family who inform me that the Lane family came from Chepstow area!!!!! One remembers a photograph of three large men and on the back it said ' Lanes Farm' Lane End, tintern. the other person remembers being told that his mother was taken to chepstow on the train then having a long walk to her grandparents farm. I also have a recollection of father-in law saying that he visited Devauden, but unfortunateley we thought he was rambling as he had recently had a stroke - that'll teach me! I believe the person I am looking for is Sydney Hubert or sidney Herbert ( or variations) Lane who married in 1905. I know his wife was born in1885 so if he was older he may be on the 1881 census, if someone wouldn't mind helping me out. Any information would be gratefully received, especially if someone could verify the address and residents of Lane farm. Many thanks if you have got this far, & many thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help Regards Pat Bulley Wiltshire Please address all replies to [email protected]
Can anyone help me find more data on the Elizabeth Jones who married my forebear Joseph Vaughan at Newland in 1724. He was then 'of Whitecroft', but 'of Bream' in 1725, 1728 for baptism of children. Perhaps she was daughter of William Jones of Bream who left a Will in 1738 [but the Will doesn't name her]. What was going on Whitecroft in 1724? Charcoal-burning and iron-working by illicit squatters on Crown land, or what? Any ideas?
David, Don't know if this is connected. I have a Mary Anne JENKINS, b abt 1834, who married a George MEEK, b abt 1835 (and hence became Mary Anne MEEK). They had children Elizabeth Agnes (abt 1858), Sara A. (abt 1865), Fanny (abt 1868), Mark (abt 1871), george (abt 1874) and James (abt 1877). These appear on the 1881 census at "Clement's Tump", a lttle village now known as Clement's End, and adjacent to Little Drybrook. Just thought you may like to know that BT are looking into upgrading the IP equipment for this project. It is of course in their interest as they provide the access. The system was geared up for for 1 million hits at any time but as we all know it would have crashed if set for twice that! Expect to wait a week before it is up and limping again. Hi I'm looking for connections to my Jordan/Rodway family. JORDAN William Henry born about 1849 in Cinderford married to RODWAY Mary Ann born about 1855 in Mitcheldean. As far as I can tell their families were miners from over the river Rangeworthy / wickwar area who mined in the forest of dean area for a while before moving north to the Normington, Yorkshire coal fields. How did these families know where the work was ? why would they leave mines that were not closed, family history has it that they travelled by getting lifts on cannel barges, would this be correct ? here's hoping Carole [email protected]
