>Just in case anyone feels like swotting up on the Australian Hawkesbury (which is more a region, referring to the historic early settlement area along the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales, near Sydney), here is a nice URL: >http://www.angelfire.com/id/alana/ghosts.html< Thank you Linda! Wonderful reading.... If any listers are interested in that other historic Hawkesbury I can recommend a visit. When I lived in Sydney I loved driving along the Hawkesbury's gorge from Wiseman's Ferry to Mangrove Mountain, incredibly beautiful steep sandstone cliffs with a wide, lazy winding river flanked by orchards. The haunted pub at Wiseman's Ferry makes wonderful lunches (I guess I have a thing for haunted pubs). Just avoid the rental cabins further downriver:- crawling with funnel web spiders! The houseboats you can rent from Brooklyn are a better bet. I wonder if the Hawkesbury's all over the world can coordinate some regular simultaneous celebrations, like all the Strouds do with their annual brick-throwing contests? Perhaps a pond-dipping contest? Cheers... Ken M.
