Yes, these are WHITTERNS, this must have been a transcription error. When I checked the census on microfilm in Bristol some years ago, William and Elizabeth's surname was spelled correctly. I'm pretty sure that William is one of the children of Thomas WHITTERN and Deborah COOK. On the 1861 Census he is living at 'Waterloo' Hawkesbury with a niece Louisa CARTER who is the child of Elizabeth WHITTERN who is definitely the child of Thomas and Deborah. William and Elizabeth had 7 children that I know of: Sophia, Blanch, Richard, Henrietta, Edwin, Walter and Thomas H. My Hawkesbury research interests, apart from the WHITTERNS include COOK, RODWAY, RICHENS (RICHINGS/RICHINS), STINCHCOMBE (as a side line) and possibly BEARD. Also SPRACKMAN from Horton.
