I have just inherited some old maps of the area. My family once owned land in and around the village in the time of my grandfather, John Robert Bayly A'Deane. He died in 1924 and the land was subsequently sold. The land was about 80 acres in scattered fields. There are names - Splatt's Wood, Long Coombe, Friths Wood and other unnamed patches of land around Hawkesbury Common. I would be grateful if you could suggest how I can find out how we came to own these bits of land so far from New Zealand and any other information about the village and it's early inhabitants. Any information would be welcome. Ngaire Jackson (nee A'Deane Tollemache)
