Geoff et al, >Sue SISSONS wrote "Just in case it is of interest to anyone....".... >Not half Sue. You list CHAPPELLs in your research interests. Are you related >to this particular Samuel ? Would love to chat and exchange info. What more can >you tell us about this particular household ? I haven't established a link between this Samuel and my CHAPPELLs (also Pauline Kennedy's) yet. I 'collected' him in passing. This doesn't mean to say a link doesn't exist so any information anyone else can add could be useful. To be honest I don't know a lot about this family group. As far as I can tell, this is the Samuel CHAPPELL whose christening is shown on the IGI as taking place on 25 Dec 1772 in Hawkesbury and whose parents are James CHAPPELL and Sarah. The only (exceedingly slim) link with my CHAPPELLs is in his occupation - Grocer. I have a David CHAPPELL son of Samuel & Sarah who before 1821 was a shopkeeper. David then moved from Littleton Drew to Bath, returning around 1838 as keeper of the Plough Inn, Littleton Drew. Being a small place I doubt whether there would have been more than 1 shop in Littleton Drew and I can't help wondering whether the Samuel on the census was a relation who took over the shop business when David moved. If a link can be established then I can provide any interested party with more info. I have been in 'off list' communication with Pauline Kennedy and I'm sure she won't mind if I quote part of her email. "I have mention of a Samuel CHAPPELL in Littleton Drew land tax assessments. I've only scribbled down rough details .......but Samuel is mentioned 1818 - 21 (?a proprietor) and 1830 and 31 (an occupier) - and possibly other times as well. (That's all I have on LTAs.).....". I strongly suspect that the LTAs Pauline mentions relate to the Hawkesbury Samuel. >I wonder if Patience is in fact Patience THOMPSON born Hawkesbury abt 1774 >as the youngest daughter of William THOMPSON and Patience CHAPPELL. >Nephew Edwin looks interesting as well. The William above was born 1736 and died >1827. Patience his first wife is buried at hawkesbury. Sorry I can't be more helpful but hopefully you can fit another piece of the jigsaw in place.
