Hi Den I was looking for STINCHCOMBE's and found Henry and Elizabeth in Cardigan he was the station master but visiting were Mary Ann ILES and Emily Jane ILES Elizabeth Ashby ILES (wife of Henry) was Marys sister but had not come across Emily before she was listed as being born 1853 so missing the 51 census The Daniel son of Moses who was listed baptised in Hawkesbury 1818 to Moses and Ann must be wrong as Ann died 1813 if this Daniel was born 1808 he would fit with the one in Thornbury, I am fairly sure I know which house Moses retired to at Hawkesbury and one of the other houses he owned. Have you seen the Daniel living in South Cerney who is listed as Farmer and runs lunatic asylum must have kept him busy I am sure these families are closely linked but cannot see how. An Iles roughly in the Hawkesbury area in Men & Armour 1608 is John Moncks alias Iles, at Old Sodbury, aged about 40. I have been researching solely the Iles surname for some time now and my focus has been on the Bitton area. By coincidence the two Iles families (headed by Walter & Henry) who were getting married and baptising children in Bitton, during the first half of the 17th century, were also using the surname Iles alias Monk (or vice versa). I have the Will of a Thomas Iles - 1675/76 (son of Henry Iles alias Monk) and Thomas mentions "Coson Moses" although I have never found this Moses in Bitton records. I also have firm evidence to suggest that the family members sometimes dropped the Iles or Monk which only helps to confuse research. I have also come across mention of a Nicholas Iles (with no apparent baptism source of burial exit). When sweeping the onlone IGI in the early part of the 17th century I have found the odd entry for a John Monk (Iles bit dropped) of Old Sodbury baptising children. It might be worth keeping an eye open for Monk (Monck, Munck) entries when next scanning through parish records? Could the Bitton & Hawkesbury Iles be linked in the 17th century?
