Hi John STINCHCOMBE I have been looking at the family of Noel Edward STINCHCOMBE who you told me on Saturday moved the whole family to Monkswood Chapel Usk it must have been at some great expence to take most of the family. I looked at Kelly's Directory of Monmouth 1901 it lists a Henry as Farmer of Chapel farm but interestingly it shows the Duke of Beaufort as Lord of the Manor, the village from the map in the directory appears as an enclosed parkland estate similar to Badminton the church was totaly rebuilt in 1883 partly at the Dukes expence, I would think that there must have been some kind of arrangement between Noel Edward and the Duke which was to their mutual advantage to move to Monkswood did you find any reference to this in the Badminton Papers. The local pub was called The Beaufort Arms run by John GUNTER I wonder if this is a Hawkesbury GUNTER. Regards Robert Millard.
