Seeing the recent STINCHCOMB(E) postings I felt it was time to see if anyone has found whether my Lucy descended from a Hawkesbury STINCHCOMB(E)? Lucy, from Yate; married in Bristol and lived in Wickwar, just a spit from Hawkesbury, is my one and only STINCHCOMBE . Robert Millard thinks Lucy may turn out to be decended from Nehamiah who moved from Hawkesbury to Yate in 1600's. Lucy STINCHCOMBE, my great great grandmother, married George REDDY on 25 Jun 1831 at St.Phil. & St.Jac. Bristol; their daughter, Lucy REDDY, born in Wickwar, married Ezekiel Holman TREVETHAN and their eldest son, Sydney Charles TREVETHAN, was my mother's father. Lucy STINCHCOMBE's birthplace and date are established as Yate, 1808 from the 1851 & 1881 census. The only Stinchcomb family producing children in Yate c.1808 were: Arthur STINCHCOMB m Charlotte BAKER (b. Yate 1792), 22 Feb 1806, Yate Their children were: Harriott STINCHCOMB b. c.27 Jul 1806, Yate (Father - Arthur; Mother - Charlotte) George STINCHCOMB b. c.26 Aug 1810, Yate, (Father - Arthur; Mother - Charlotte) Unfortunately there is no sign of Lucy, who would fit neatly between these dates. There is no Lucy Stinchcomb christening recorded in the IGI for 1808 ( +/- 10yrs). Notes on George REDDY and Lucy STINCHCOMBE: George REDDY b. c.25 Apr 1802 at Wickwar. 25 June 1831 George REDDY m. Hi Brian I'm getting to the end of linking the Hawkesbury STINCHCOMB's both to each other and with surrounding areas and Lucy still is a mystery my theory of Neahmiah starting a Yate branch of the family is incorrect it seems likely the Yate STINCHCOMBs have been there for a long time as I found a reference to William STINCHCOMBE on the Yate and Ichington subsidy roles of 1327. It might be she was of Quaker origins and the birth not in a parish register or just never recorded at all. Samuel STINCHCOMBE bc1848 Chipping Sodbury arrived aged 15 per "Lobelia" 1863 Sydney; gave his parents as William and Matilda. Here is the family at Old Sodbury 1851 25 STINCHCOMBE William 51 Lab & Pensioner Wapley Matilda 26 Chipping Sodbury Hannah 7 Chipping Sodbury Samuel 2 Chipping Sodbury Samuel said he had an uncle Richard HART living Merimbula, so Matilda may have been nee HART. Richard HART born Chipping Sodbury a blacksmith, had arrived 1853 "Beejapore" (Sydney NSW) aged 22, parents given as William and Sophia; he and Matilda STINCHCOMBE could well be siblings. Henry STINCHCOMBE I know nothing at all about except that he was born GLS c1843 and arrived as a labourer 1865 "Norman Morrison" (Port Adelaide SA).
