Joseph MILSOM signed as a witness to my George WICKS' (b. abt 1822 of Alderley, Glos. according to census data) marriage to Mary WITCHELL WATTS in Sopworth, Wilts. (near Sherston) in 1852 (parish records); Mary b. abt 1833, of Sherston, was a daughter of a Nathaniel WATTS. Labourer, (may or may not be the same Joseph Milsom as the one named first, above) There is no Nathaniel WATTS that I can find who is appropriate for the position as Mary's father in Wiltshire. However, a Nathaniel WATTS married Ann DAVIS 1 Sep 1833 in Hawkesbury. He may or may not be the right one however, DAVIS is also an alias of WICKS! ------------------------------- Now, William WICKS (one who is the right age to be my George WICKS' father but isn't likely because I have found a more probable William WICKS) married Martha CHAPPEL in Hawkesbury, Wilts. on 25 Sep 1828. Here is what was written on the marriage record ... William WICKS of this Parish (meaning Hawkesbury) and Martha CHAPPEL of the Parish of Sherston in the County of Wilts. were married in this church ... solemnized by (Dr?) REED, Curate. This marriage was solemnized by William (his signature) and Martha ("X") in the presence of John ROBBINS and Thomas WHITTERN. William and Martha christen sons Elijah LATHOM WEEKS (4 Aug 1833) and William LATHOM WEEKS ( 2 Jan 1831) in Hawkesbury and in 1851 census for Tything of Upton they are living with son Elijah but now William is reportedly born in Sherston, Wilts. (not Hawkesbury, Glos.) and Martha is apparently born at Newington Bagpath! I wonder if they were trying to confuse us who are already confused?! Hi Rhonda Nice to hear from you again, glad to see they let you back into Canada with that Beaufort Inn shirt on. Is it poss that Elijah and Wiliam WICKS were born in Wiltshire but mother brought them back to Hawkesbury for Christening hence they are correct in parish register and census, I know Ann CORNOCK nee ILES living in Slimbridge did that so did I with my children. William on wedding record may have been "of this parish" because he was living or working there but born in Sherston in most cases the vicar was some learned gent from far away and would not have known if William was born in Hawkesbury or not it looks very confusing to me. Have you checked the parish records to see if Wiliam had asked to live in Hawkesbury or had to prove he had the right to live there, I found some great details for my CHAPPELL's that way because they gave a brief resume of their life including marriage and military service and parents moves from parish to parish, its worth checking both parish records because they would write to each other to confirm details ect . regards Robert Millard PS I'll force myself to have a drink of "warm" beer for you tommorow at the Beaufort ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.
