I am not sure who Samuel CHAPPELL was my mother was a CHAPPELL from Hawkesbury that line came from Oldbury-on-Hill (which was part of Hawkesbury originaly) I have looked at my notes and can't find this Samuel CHAPPELL so he is probably from Badminton and therefore may have origins in Oldbury-on-Hill the spelling of CHAPPELL suggests this also Regards Robert Millard ----- Original Message ----- From: <SSiss165@aol.com> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2000 7:32 PM Subject: [[Hawks]] Members Interests: CHAPPELL > Good Evening, > > I would like to introduce myself as a new member and also post my (possible) > research interests, i.e. CHAPPELL. > > My GGG Grandparents were Samuel & Sarah CHAPPELL who moved to Littleton Drew, > Wilts a little before 1768 when their first child was born. 3. Hey Robert and Sue, Welcome to the list Sue ... You might find the CHAPPELL connection in Sherston, Wilts. I have a William WICKS in my database who married Martha CHAPPEL. On his marriage certificate, he is from Hawkesbury, Glos. and she is from Sherston. (parish record) BUT ... ha ha ha ... in the census, SHE is from Hawkesbury and HE is from Sherston. So far, it's anyone's guess but there are CHAPPEL(L)s and WICKSes and WITCHELLs and WATTS in both locales AND they are all in Oldbury-on-the-Hill too! I think they were doin' some pretty "funny" stuff back then ... probably needed Geoffro and one of those really really BIG Pond Dippins' to set them straight! LOL Oh yes, My George WICKS b. abt 1822 married Mary Witchell WATTS !!! ... in Sopworth, Wilts. and she was from Sherston, d/o Nathaniel WATTS, Labourer. Guess where he was from, according to census ... Alderley, Glos.! (although I am starting to think the census taker had a hearing problem or the info giver was speech impaired and maybe he was really from Oldbury ... I'm still checkin it out. <smiles>) Do you have him in your WATTS data Robert? I have been silent since my return home from England (but not any more! ) as I've been trying to sort out and name my photos. I believe I am almost finished now and will get some webpages up soon for everyone interested. Cheers! Ronda Wicks (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada)

    3. Hi Robert I think I might fit into this ILES family. One of my ancestors was a Lydia ILES who married Charles WEBB in 1811 in Wotton-under-Edge. Lydia's parents were Edward ILES and Hester SMITH (married Wotton-under-Edge 1768). It seems likely that Edward Iles was the one baptised Alderley in 1743, son of another Edward and Hester. This latter Edward was, I believe, son of the William bp 1655 that you mention below. My information on this family is quite sketchy since I have yet to prove that the Edward baptised 1743 in Alderley is mine. Can you help at all, please?
