Hi Listers, The Thomas LEWIS mentioned in the Will is probably the one who can be found in the 1851 Hawkesbury Census a carpenter aged 51. However, the interesting person from the ILES point of view is his supposed wife Joyce aged 52 - this I believe is a daughter of Moses ILES - there is an IGI record of her baptism in 1798 at Hawkesbury. As for the Daniel ILES found in Hawkesbury in the 1851 Census, he is enumerated as being born in North Cerney and is living with his sister Dorothy ILES aged 63 and born in Castleeaton (wherever that may be). In the Hawkesbury churchyard is a tomb with the inscription "In memory of Dorothy Arkell ILES daughter of William and Elizabeth ILES of Saddlewood in this parish who departed this life June 24 1851 aged 64 years". This probably the same Dorothy. Also in the tomb is Mary ILES another daughter of William and Elizabeth who died in 1828 aged 39. All this implies that:- a) Dorothy was unmarried. b) She had a brother Daniel and sister Mary. c) Their parents were William and Elizabeth ILES. d) Elizabeth's maiden name was probably ARKELL. e) They lived at Saddlewood from at least 1828. f) They were probably incomers since their places of birth are outside Hawkesbury. For those who are interested Dorothy left a Will............ Hi Dennis I was hoping that would be your answer. If Thomas Lewis is indeed the one that is married to Joyce then I can offer you this. Their daughter Esther born abt 1824 married Thomas COATES - Thomas was the base born son of Betty COATES - her 3rd base born child. The first 2 were to one of our William THOMPSON's. I have a record somewhere of who the father is but not sure at this stage, however The Grave Robber tells me that Cath McIlwrick from Alveston, Derbyshire will be attending the get together. I am confident that she will have a copy of the bastardy bond. Thomas and Esther COATES had a daughter who married a William WATTS. Jesse LEWIS married Eunice HOPKINS and again somewhere I have further details of her parentage and siblings (memory says there were a few). Thomas LEWIS the son married Hannah SIMS. Henry John LEWIS married a woman from Acton Turville called Sarah Ann. Their son Charles Henry LEWIS married Emily (1858) THOMPSON who is 1st cousin 3 times removed to Mrs Pond Dipper. Emily was the daughter of Daniel THOMPSON and Martha Ann from Wiltshire. Ann LEWIS married James COOPER who was the son of the uncle and niece pairing of Joseph COOPER and Mary THOMPSON. Mary was Mrs P's 1st cousin 5 times removed and James was 2nd cousin 4 times removed. I have a feeling that I have copies of parish marriage entries for some of the above. Hope this is of interest and helps. Will we see you tomorrow ? Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk 0117 938 1338 07932 898 902
