    3. After an unplanned and extremely fruitful visit to Gloucester Record Office today (with apologies to Janet HESKINS for not seekign her out and saying hello during her holiday there) myself and cousin Bob got to thinking and chatting. In 1826 John COOPER born Hawkesbury but residing in Kingswood (Wilts), GLS left the sum of £100 each to a dozen or so nephews and nieces ( all named in his will - what a find ! ) which they received the following year. Our questions are along the lines of.....how would they have received the money ? In cash ? into a bank account ? What would ordinary folk do with such a large legacy....would they put in in the bank or keep it at home.....where would the nearest bank be ? etc etc. Things we perhaps take for granted these days but 175 years ago ? ANy ideas ?? Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk
