    1. [[Hawks]] Hawkesbury in Wilts

    3. Fortunately Hawkesbury has never been in Wiltshire. Kingswood (near Wotton under Edge) was a part of Wiltshire but at the same time was part of "the see of Gloucster" so was in a way part of Gloucster at the same time. Linda's question prompts me to remind all listers that they should consider Wiltshire parishes when researching Hawkesbury families. The border between GLS and WILTS near Hawkesbury is extremely twisted and there are many parishes within a 5 mile radius of Hawkesbury that are in Wiltshire not Gloucestershire. Many THOMPSON events are recorded in Wiltshire. For example Adrain SHEPPARD earned the undying thanks of the Pond Dipper for discovering an 1814 marriage in Sopworth, Wilts ( about 3-5 miles fom Hawkesbury) of Isaac THOMPSON and Jane PHELPS.
