Just a thought - on my web site I posted a picture of what I called the Duke of Beaufort's Milita - but as my Dad pointed out yesterday, he think's this is the local Yeomanry, not the militia - my grandad's accounts from WW1 shows where the Yeomanry commandeered some of his horses for the War effort. - Therefore can my picture be on the 10th Gloucestershire Yeomanry - can anyone look and tell me?? (see the picture at http://www.zyworld.com/hulbert/beauforts-militia.jpg) And - Does anyone on the list searching for SERMON's know of a link to Swindon Village near Cheltenham? Swindon Manor was owned by Sermon's for a long time and family members still farm in the area (or at least they have done until recently) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Millard" <Robert.Millard@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 05, 2000 9:01 PM Subject: [[Hawks]] WAS IT LUCK << Snip for comment on the following >> The other person we met was John SERMON he was looking for his relative Capt John SURMON and his wife he lived at Petty Fance which if you don't know is in Hawkesbury he died 1861 he was incharge of the 10th Gloucestershire Yeomanry born 1780 had a well documented military history said to be buried with his wife at Hawkesbury but may not be at St Mary's but else where in Parish?again any help please we have John's Email Address. << snip (again)>>
