    3. Ploughed Out was built by one of the Stinchcombe family - my Dad knew the family when we first moved back to the area in the 60's, but I can't remember which one off hand - you can ask him on 30th Sept as he is planning to come to the "do". The story is that like Ted THOMPSON, the Ministry of Ag insisted he plough a certain acreage. Not all of it was suitable in his eyes, and he refused. If you refused, you were compulsory-purchased by the government on behalf of the War effort, and he built/ moved to the cottage on Cold Change and named it "Ploughed Out" as a mark of the disgust he felt at his treatment. Those of you who saw the excellent Channel 4 series "Green and Pleasant Land" will recall a similar story from the Worcester area, and recall the distress and upheaval such incidents aroused
