Hello Liz I think your best way forward would be to order the marriage certificate for John WATTS & Hannah PAINTER. This will give you their father's names & occupations. If you find it's John WATTS Butcher then I can give you his probable ancestry back to the 1600s. Also we would become 5th cousins twice removed (I think!!) I don't have the 1871 census entries - John does not appear on the 1871 census on Robert's wonderful web site so I guess he was living outside the area indexed. His father is there though, in Back Street - Father in law of Robert WINBOW and his wife Anna/Hannah Jane. She was John WATTS Junior's sister. I'm going to cobble together some sort of tree on the assumption that John WATTS did marry Hannah PAINTER and see how it stacks up. Cheers Carole PS Hope you all have a greet day in Hawkesbury tomorrow. Sorry I can't be there.
