    1. [HWK] Yet more WATTS

    3. Hi Carole and every one, Firstly, I've had a great time going through the Hawkesbury CD produced last summer. Thanks to all concerned. Like Carole, I arrived seeking the roots of one WATTS family member and found more than I could have dreamed of, not least the friendly support and interest of other list members. I have been listening in to the recent WATTS conversations and after a trawl thro the 1871 census in the Family Record Centre yesterday now have one more WATTS to add to Carole's bulging file. My greatgrandmother Sarah Jane WATTS (1854 - 1949) was the daughter of John WATTS (1821-1900) who was in turn son of John WATTS (1791 - 1881), the butcher from Upton, and Jane Pritchard. This line seems strong on longevity! The new WATTS is a brother Walter for Sarah Jane, shown in 1871 age 9 living in Lower Kilcott with his widowed father John and sister, GRO confirms the birth as Walter WATTS, Dec qu 1861 Chipping Sodbury 6a 158. There is an 1881 entry for a private in the Horfield barracks, which I think must be him although the ages and dates dont tally perfectly - unless any one knows better of course. They give a Walter WATTS , born 1863 in Hawkesbury, age 18. I've found nothing so far on the 1901 census. If anyone knows anything about him I'd be interested to hear from them Liz
