Both George COATES born 1836 and William COATES born 1838 are both listed as born in Hawkesbury to William COATES and Hannah CHAPPELL on the LDS site but recorded by a member of LDS not from records. It seems odd that they would have two children before they married in 1839 or was that the norm in those days. I wonder if there was a reason for them being in Chepstow in Monmouthshire, I wonder if it is to do with Hannah CHAPPELL's parents but she was born in Sherston Wiltshire. William was likely born at Hawkesbury. Free BMD gives Births Jun 1838 Coates William Chipping Sodbury 11 217 I'm not sure we would gain anything from the certificate though. I still think William and Hannah probably did a bit of deception in Wales.
