Cynthia, That's what I was hoping for. It seems fairly conclusive that William was her son from before her marriage to Joseph GULWELL, as shown in 1851 when Wm BAKER was 1 year old and living with Jane, Onesimus and Hannah. It doesn't rule out Joseph as the father because William along with Joseph and Samuel were strong names in the GULWELL family. I realise that William was also a very common name, but this juxtaposition points to a possibility and we know they weren't living together in 1851. It's all a lot tidier now. Brian
