Hi All I have just received the death certificates for my 3x great grandparents Thomas WISE and his wife Anne Child WISE, nee COSSHAM. The informant of both deaths was their daughter Anne, wife of Lewis WALLINGTON (who were my 2x ggps). Death 2 October 1869 at Pullins Green, Thornbury, Anne Child WISE, Female, 76 years, Wife of Thomas Wise a Plasterer, of Decay of Nature - No Medical Attendant. Informant Anne Wallington present at the death, of Pullins Green Thornbury. The antecedents of Thomas WISE are still a mystery. Death 8 May 1871 at Pullins Green, Thornbury, Thomas WISE, Male, 78 years, Tiler and Plasterer, of Ulceration of the Stomach. Certified. Informant Anne Wallington present at the death, of Pullins Green Thornbury. Some time ago, Rosemary Lockie sent me this quote from Susan Dean's booklet The Cossham Story: "Jesse [COSSHAM] was baptised on 27th February 1756 at Thornbury, married Ann Child on 6 March 1791 and had four children. All his family are commemorated in Thornbury Baptist Church burial ground. Jesse 'carpenter of this town' died aged 41, wife Ann aged 64, son George 'in his 77th year' in 1871, and son Jesse just 8 months ..." then daughter Charlotte, and "Ann Child Cossham died aged 76 in 1869 and her husband Thomas Wise 2 years later aged 71." >From his age at the 1851 census I wondered then if Thomas Wise's quoted age was a misreading of 77, the inscription perhaps worn. It now looks as if that could be so. When we visited Thornbury last year, I had hoped to find this burial ground and memorial, but had not done my homework, so we missed it. Better luck next time, when I will be better prepared with a clear map. Happy days Lee Perth Oz
