    3. Carole I still had some credit on my 1901 voucher, so I checked Isadore Cox on the census. The family are all together, but the page ref may be different for different members to confuse those trying to get information without paying. Details are as follows: 2409 49 1 High Street, Hawkesbury William Isadaor Cox, Head, 77, union medical officer, born Marlbro, Wilts (before they knew about smoking) Sarah A Cox, Wife, 66, born Hawkesbury Mary A Cox, 27, single, no occupation, born Hawkesbury Winifred Andrews, grandchild, 6, born Rangemore, Staffs Francis J. Ellis, Single female, 22, visitor, no occupation, born Solbury Bucks A few more things to work out there! Incidentally, looking back at the previous information, it would seem that Mary was the daughter of the doc, but born before her parents married. Hence the WATTS/COX confusion. It looks like Dr William COX married a widow by the name of Sarah Ann WATTS, and she had children Llewellyn (born c.1870) and Ellen (born c 1874). I therefore looked for a male WATTS who had died after 1874, and found Joseph, who was buried at St Mary's on 12th November 1874, age 38. He was the son (baptised 25 December 1836) of Hugh WATTS and Margaret nee HYDE, who married 27th November 1831. Here they are in the Beavington transcription in 1851 WATTS Hugh 43 Ag Lab Hawkesbury Margaret 45 Rodborough Joseph 14 Hawkesbury Eli 7 Scholar Hawkesbury Daniel 3 Scholar Hawkesbury Eliza Jane 1 Hawkesbury James 35 Ag Lab Hawkesbury I looked up Eli and Daniel in the 1881 census and found the following: Dwelling: Channels Hill Census Place: Stapleton, Gloucester, England Source: FHL Film 1341604 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 2506 Folio 101 Page 3 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Danl. WATTS 5 M St Georges, Gloucester, England Rel: Son Albert WATTS 2 M Fishponds, Gloucester, England Rel: Son It looks to me like Ellen and Eli have been listed twice - at their home and where they were visiting. I could not find an older Eli anywhere. There is an Eli WATTS age 18 living in Stapleton in 1891, together with two Ellens. I have found them on the 1891 Avon census index available at FamilyHistoryOnline, but will need to check the original census for full details. My suggestion therefore is that Ellen WATTS was visiting her sister-in-law, together with her son. I do not know who Margaret BARTLETT was. I cannot find marriages for Daniel or Joseph on FreeBMD. I also found the death of a Llewellyn Geoffry WATTS recorded in Tetbury R.D. in December quarter 1895 (Free BMD). Is there a prize? 3. Bob Excellent deduction! If there is a prize, you've won it. I owe you for your voucher so I'll buy you a drink next time! The plot may be a little thicker still. Daniel WATTS born Bristol in the 1881 census could be Daniel the son of Hugh WATTS & Margaret HYDE bapt Feb 6 1848 in Hawkesbury. Same age, just out on the birth place but that's not uncommon. Do you recall asking about a Sarah Ann WATTS recently?.She is another child of Hugh & Margaret WATTS and is the right age to have been Dr COX's wife (if she wasn't a widow but a single lady with countless illegitimate children). In fact, it was your question that set me off on this tack originally! Also, Joseph WATTS, brother of Daniel & Sarah Ann may have a prison record! Gloucester prison Record Q/Gc/6/3 Joseph Watts age 17 committed 24 Mar 1854 Labourer of Hawkesbury Upton Joseph Watts age 21 committed 21 Oct 1857 Labourer of Hawkesbury Upton I haven't seen these records so know no more. Nor do I have a wife for him. Perhaps he couldn't fit in marriage and prison. As GP and Union Medical Officer I'm sure Dr Cox must feature in the records somewhere. I find it all quite intriguing and would love to know more. I'll keep on digging! Many thanks Carole ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.P. & A.L.Lawrence" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2004 7:47 PM Subject: [HWK] Dr COX & WATTS Carole I still had some credit on my 1901 voucher, so I checked Isadore Cox on the census.
