    3. I've used the new FreeCen search facility over the last couple of days from Cardiff without any problems. It's excellent and very easy to use, though the data on line at present is mostly just the 1841 and 1891 censuses covering parishes in Devon and Cornwall, though there are a few others. Fortunately it turned out that it was the 1891 census for the Plymouth area that I wanted, and found three families on my mother's side within minutes, which would have taken many hours of searching manually as I didn't know the parish (in fact I had assumed they would be in Cornwall, not Devon, so would have gone to the wrong County Record Office). Once more is on-line, this will be a very useful facility.
