Hello Barry, I spent a lot of time researching this particular family - until I found I'd been barking up the wrong tree. All very embarrassing. I have a copy of the marriage certificate between Grace PRITCHARD and David CHAPPELL. I have also looked at the original baptism entry for Grace. This took place on 2nd Feb 1806 at West Kington, Wilts. Grace and her 5 brothers and sisters are all illegitimate. Her mother was almost certainly Jane KING and she married a John PRITCHARD on 26th April 1765 at Old Sodbury, Glos. They then appear in West Kington where they had a son William. After that John seems to have disappeared, leaving Jane to have 6 children by man unknown. Exactly who the Thomas PRITCHARD shown on the marriage certificate is, is anybody's guess ...... but I would imagine that Grace did not wish the authorities to know she was illegit so perhaps put an uncles name down.
