    3. Sylvia I should have explained. This is just an error in transcription. The Gordon Beavington transcriptions have been done at considerable speed by people who are not necessarily aware of local surnames. This is just a mistake on their part. I had already transcribed some of the 1851 census for my own records, and the name is definitely Winbow. More than one of the Winbows was parish clerk, so the name appears often in the records. I think there are different spellings in earlier centuries (Winbole, Wimbole, etc), but the spelling had become standardised by the nineteenth. 3. Hi Sylvia & Bob. The Gloucestershire FHS transcription also records the families as WINBORO!. Comparing this version with Gordon Beavington's the only additions are that William WINBORO was a "mason emp 4 men" and his son John was also a Mason. The only WINBOW from Hawkesbury is Sally WINBOW age 17 a Servant to Edward COLLINS at Upton, Hawkesbury. Thanks Bob for sorting out the fathers for me. Cheers Carole. ----- Original Message ----- From: "R.P. & A.L.Lawrence" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2003 9:12 PM Subject: [HWK] Winbows Sylvia I should have explained.
