Hi Helen, There are any number of us with an interest in the surname Witchell in both Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. My interest stems from the two Witchell's who married Warn's in Tetbury, but I have also located a single link to what was called the "Sopworth branch". Because I have not got around to locating Sopworth records, I cannot follow that one up, yet. For the majority of us, the earliest way back we have gone is to the marriage of John Witchell and Ann Boyds on 9th August 1713 in Long Newnton, Wilts. I have details of several hundred Witchell people mainly from Gloucestershire but some from Wiltshire as Yatton Keynell is another Witchell Parish. Best wishes, Phil. Dear Phil, Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply. In fact I think we may have already corresponded (have you changed email from [email protected]? At the time I was looking for THOMAS BENNET JESSE WITCHELL, who now seems to have been christened and called himself all though his life simply as JESSE WITCHELL. I subsequently found his baptism in 1791 in the Sopworth records, son of JOHN and LUCY so at least I have got back one generation. Do please let me know if you come across anything in your research and I shall certainly do the same.
