I suggested way back in February that we set up a list like the Hawkesbury list, covering the small villages in North West Wiltshire. I made some suggestions as to which ones - these were mostly those on the down-land areas between Chippenham and the GLS boundary. It seemed to me that they formed a sort of community, as the villages had similar economies and often shared vicars, which meant for example people travelled to the vicar for marriages in particular, making them sometime difficult to trace. There was also a strong Quaker and non-Conformist presence in the area. I heard today that they have set this up for me and ENG-WILTSHIRE-NW-L@rootseb.com and its Digest form ENG-WILTSHIRE-NW-D now exists. My proposed list of villages can be seen on a multimap screen centred on Castle Coombe and would cover the area west of the A359 road, North of the A4, west of the Gloucestershire boundary and south of the B4040 (Mostly!) This gives us those villages that "bother" us Hawkesbury folks the most! Luckington Sopworth Sherston Easton Grey Alderton Hullavington Littleton Drew Grittleton Nettleton Castle Coombe West Kington North Wraxall Slaughterford Biddestone Yatton Keynell And the even smaller villages in between! I appreciate that not everyone on this list "approved" of the idea - I certainly think it covers a distinctly different area and my hope is it will attract people from Wiltshire research as well to chip in. Anyway - if like me you have a frustratingly elusive set of ancestors in this area, lets give it a go! Marilyn

Hi, Marilyn and other Hawkesbury Listers. I know I'm a bit slow, being a 'lady of a certain age,' but I can't for the life of me find the new list on Rootsweb. Is it supposed to be up and running yet? Am so excited, can't wait to get at Luckington, Sherston and Easton Grey! There is already a very good Sherston site, by the way, (SherstonMagna@yahoogroups.com) but this new one will surely add a new dimension. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?
