    2. Hello all I am new to the list. After searching for over a year for my g grandfathers family (g grandparents werent married!) I believe I have now found them, by pure fluke! He was born in Staffs and I have discovered his parents were born in Glo. I found the following for 1881: _William THOMPSON_ (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/individual_record.asp?INDI_CODE=1881BR_5428187_0&frompage=5) Head M Male 57 Hukesbury, Gloucester, England Furnace Keeper Ironworks _Sophia THOMPSON_ (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/individual_record.asp?INDI_CODE =1881BR_5428187_1&frompage=5) Wife M Female 40 Hukesbury, Gloucester, England I am assuming this should be Hawkesbury tho I did at first think it might be Tewkesbury. In 1891 it looks like Chucksberry. Someone on Staffs list kindly found them in Staffs in 1871 and places look like Grafan for William and Lindfiarl for Sophia??? Ages in 1871 are 47 and 44 which I believe are correct as they tally with 1891. Ring any bells with anyone? I would really appreciate any help to move on with this family. Any good Glo sites??? Regards Joan

    3. I have Hawkesbury Thompsons, but I'm not the fount of all knowledge that Doug is - no doubt he will be in touch on this, especially if he has a suitable candidate (we do have a lot of William THOMPSONs!!!) There is one thing though that you should bear in mind - using a local accent Chucksberry is a fairly good literal transcription of how people like me - born in North Glos say "Tewkesbury" !!!!!!!!! Although I might spell it Chooksbury ... and then that looks like something close to Hukesbury before you know it!! ----- Original Message ----- From: <Noljo54@aol.com> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 09, 2005 12:20 AM Subject: [HWK] Thompson > Hello all > I am new to the list. 3. Hello Joan I'm afraid I agree with Marilyn. Tewkesbury sounds more likely. I have got 20 William Thompsons in my tree now, all born in Hawkesbury but there isn't one to match with yours. There was one born 1820, but we know all about him and he doesn't go to Staffs. The other nearest was born 1829, which is a bit far out. We know nothing of this one except his birth. I suspect he died very young. Doug Thompson
