    3. Although I live in the area, I have not done any research on Bitton, etc in the 19th century, so am not quite sure how far Bitton extended at that time. I have tried to check the current population, but the latest figure is probably in the 1991 census, and therefore out of date. The boundaries of these parishes in the mining/industrial/residential area to the east of Bristol sometime bear little relationship to the actual pattern of settlement. However, Bitton is now largely a residential area, dormitory to Bristol, and has grown a lot in the past 20 years. The population now must be in the thousands or tens of thousands. Bob Lawrence N.B. Bitton is very near Warmley, where the Bristol & Avon Family History Society are holding their open day on Saturday 20th May. It is at the Warmley War Memorial & Community Centre, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is free. All the usual atttractions.
