    3. Hi, Geoff Brightman just contacted me to let me know that there was a Hawkesbury list, so I thought that I would subscribe and introduce myself. It is my wife who has the Hawkesbury connection through her great-grandmother, Louisa GUNNING. She was actually born in Marshfield, Glos., in 1859 along with her twin sister Emily. Those of you with the 1881 Census CDs will find their parents, William Gunning & Sarah residing on Hillsley Street, Hawkesbury with Louisa. He was a Groom. We don't know what became of William & Sarah Gunning. My wife and I visited Hawkesbury churchyard to have a look around and did not find them but then we didn't really think that we would be that lucky. In the 1881 Census Emily Gunning can be found at 120 Warwick St., St. George, Hanover Square, London, working as a housemaid. We know that Emily married a George WATTS 1863-1943 and lived in London. We don't know where George came from. He might be connected to a Mary Watts who was also at the same address in the 1881 census or maybe she met him while visiting home in Hawkesbury. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows of a WATTS from Hawkesbury who might fit. We know that Louisa Gunning followed her sister to London and married a chap from Kent. We don't know how long the Gunnings lived in Hawkesbury or anything about their activities there. If anyone comes across information about them my wife and her mother would be very interested in learning about it. By the way, we thought that the Hawkesbury church was in a lovely situation and whoever maintains the Yew hedges deserves a medal. - Ed Edward Coates Sinker Church Lea Bosbury, Herefordshire HR8 1PX UK
