I am a very | distant relative of Marilyn through the Hulberts of Biddestone. | | My paternal grandfather was Ernest Samuel SCRATON, and most of his | maternal ancestors came from the Wotton-under-Edge area. Surnames | include ORCHARD, WEBB, ILES, HAWKINS, SMITH. | | Charles Frederick WEBB was one of my 4 x gt grandfathers. He was born | in North Nibley in about 1778. I am descended from his second | marriage to Lydia Iles. Charles' first wife was Virgin CLARKE; they | married 26 Dec 1808 in Hawkesbury and their first child, Thomas, was | baptised there in 1809. | | My paternal grandmother was Alice Elizabeth JOHNSON, and most of her | maternal ancestors came from north west Wiltshire and over the border | into Gloucestershire. Surnames include BEAK, WOODMAN, LITTLE, | PRITCHARD, CHAPMAN, BLAKE, KING, GAYLER, MILSUM, DEVERELL, | BRINKWORTH, TRULL, BALDWIN, SMART. Several of these lines go back to | the 16th or 17th centuries. | | Anyone else researching these surnames? I'd love to share information. | | I have indexed most of my research (not quite up to date!), so if you | have lost someone in this area (particularly north west Wilts) there | is always a remote possibility I may have them in my indexes. | | best wishes | Pauline | | PS Re the interest in TAVENDER & TAVINER - one of my relatives | married a "TAVENER" in Chippenham in 1807 | | | ============================== | Free Web space.
