    3. Kingston -upon-Thames is a small town in the home counties - ie the counties around London. I think it comes in Middlesex - it isn't far from Twickenham, home of English rugby football! There are other Kingstons as you can imagine - eg ~-upon-Hull - in Yorkshire - so be careful about the full name. Try the Gloucester list archive too- or Wessex-Plus - there was someone on one of those lists looking for a Jenkinson because a child was born from a disapproved of liaison and was treated "badly" - the child cleared off to South Africa at the first oppoutunity and all but buried his background. - This was later than your ancestor - I think Victorian times. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roger Hatfield <hatfield@midusa.net> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 05, 2000 8:49 PM Subject: [[Hawks]] Jenkinson > Thanks Marilyn for the reply and suggestions. I have been unable to find the names and birth dates of the male siblings of Charles, let along the names of their respective offspring. Kingston was mentioned in the retelling of family history, but I had no idea exactly where or what it was. I will pursue that too. Pardon my ignorance, but what is Kingston on the Thames(I do know the Thames is a river that flows through London)? > > John had some type of government appointment having to do with revenue--but being somewhat of a novice at this I'm not sure how to go researching this. Is there a site somehow that lists government officials for the period 1800-1850? > > Another clue that comes from family lore is that John got to ride some of the King's horses in his youth. This is a story that dad remembers from his youth. > > Susie Jenkinson Hatfield > hatfield@midusa.net > > > > > > ==== ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY Mailing List ==== > When replying to messages please make sure to remove ALL the "Re: and Hawks" bits in the subject line as otherwise these will be repeated. > Penalty for non-compliance is a Pond Dipping. > > ============================== > Search more than 150 million free records at RootsWeb! > http://searches.rootsweb.com/ > >
