Hi Nikki I'm forwarding to you off list some information from Cousin Kay that may come in useful in your search. This is his reading of the 1871 census At 65 Commercial Street Aberdare Glamorganshire (which was next door to the Mountain Ash Inn!): Thomas WATTS Head 33 Shanksbury (yet another interpretation of Hawkesbury!) Coal Miner (c 1838) Margaret WATTS Wife 27 Llanwain Monmouth Wales Dressmaker (c 1844) William C WATTS Son 4 Paddington Middlesex (c 1867) Arthur E WATTS Son 2 Mountain Ash Glamorgan (c 1869) Albert H WATTS Son 1 Mountain Ash Glamorgan (c 1870) And just to add to the glorious interpretations by transcribers of Census details (spotted by Kay) a WOOTENUADERCOFE which, on inspecting the entry, clearly was Wotton under Edge! Hi All Just a reminder we have a get together this Sat at the Beaufort Inn Hawkesbury Upton, I will be there at 12pm a number of us are having lunch at 12:30 all welcome. We clash with the Badminton Horse trials this year so the junction with the A46 and the link to the M4 may be busy so bring a map just incase, although the roads are busy It should not be much of a delay if there is take to the minor roads its quicker. regards Robert Visit my web pages at http://www.hawkesburyhistory.co.uk
Hi Nikki I bet you were pleased to find him! If you've been looking at the Ancestry.com index I've found that WATTS is often indexed as WALTS! AS for the Oxbuary spelling - that must be another contestant in the "Weirdest spelling of Hawkesbury" contest that was running some while back. Have you found Thomas/George on the 1871 census? I wondered whether there were any more clues on that. Ronda, Have you seen these? http://home.freeuk.net/ray.wilson/mills/ http://home.clara.net/clempson/index.htm There are a couple of good books on Mills in Gloucestershire, which I do not have, unfortunately. Even worse, I can't remember the author's names! My interest is with the milling trade (cereals) rather than woollen goods. Good luck with your new project! Good idea Ronda I have room and am willing to host it. See sample: www.easywell.co.uk/chat Dave Hedges Hi List, I have been watching this list and the Tetbury list for a few weeks now while contemplating a way to get ahead of confusion with all of these data crossovers in these linking families of ours and I'm looking for responses to an idea that any one of us with a website can carry out. Do you think it would be easier to sort out some of these interconnected families if those working on them could meet in a real time chat room connected to one of our sites? I know parachat has a nice, simple and free interface available as an example. The website owner could post a schedule of times for various surname discussions and we could sort of meet "round-table" to throw ideas back and forth, discuss data conflicts, etc. i.e. WATTS / GINGELL might meet at Time A WATTS / LONG at Time B, etc. Same for STINCHCOMBE, WARN, FRANCOMBE, WITCHELL, FRY etc etc What do you think and ... if there is a positive response, does anyone volunteer to host it? Ronda WICKS

Me again! :) I have searched the Internet and have not found any website that specifically focuses on clothier families in Glos and Wilts such as there are about Brewers / Malsters & Pubs, Churches and Workhouses, etc. Since the clothing industry was quite prominent, I would like to begin a website that takes up this task. If you have a clothier family and / or materials that background the clothing industry or area mills, etc. would you please send it my way? As soon as I have a site established I will publish the URL. :) Thanks, Ronda ----- Original Message ----- From: "ANTHONY SHARP" <sharpafc@btinternet.com> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2005 5:23 PM Subject: [HWK] WATTS & GINGELL > Hi All > Is anyone connected to the GINGELL family please? Hi List, I have been watching this list and the Tetbury list for a few weeks now while contemplating a way to get ahead of confusion with all of these data crossovers in these linking families of ours and I'm looking for responses to an idea that any one of us with a website can carry out. Hello all, First may I say what an excellent job Lisa has done transcribing these marriages. Well done Lisa. As a result I now have 3 problems, or rather unidentified persons. Is there anyone with easy access to the Hawkesbury registers who could look up 3 entries for me to see if there is any additional information given, e.g. widower, otp of xyz, etc. I am totally in the dark re: Jouen EDWAL & Thomas DREUER m. 13.4.1640 Sarah EDWALS & Thomas DAVIS m. 7.5.1647 also Richard EDWEL & An HORWOOD m. 27.12.1640 I suspect all three of being children of Richard Eddolls of Didmarton who died in 1650. Richard was the son of Thomas IDOLLS & Agnis HEAVEN. Any offers or additional information gratefully received. So those entries are just that. Sorry. Phil.
Better not say that Doug - they might have been related to you - or to me - and that would be a bit embarrassing! Should have gone to Specsavers! Lisa
Well done Lisa!! Here is the Latin translation! "Due to the disease and weakness of my eyes at present and the negligence of the wardens all the names for the two preceding years, namely 1606 and 1607, are not written down. T.H. vicar." Blame those wardens! Who were they? Name them and shame them I say! Doug
HI Robert It looks really good! I would love to know what the Latin bit at the top is all about - I did try a few online translators but couldn't work it out. Any thoughts anyone? Regards Lisa
