    3. Geoffro, Marilyn and others, One of my American contacts is questioning the parentage of Isaac THOMPSON - the one who is father of Rhodalina and Allette Lovina. The 1851 census has his age given as 57, implying birthdate ca. 1794 There are three Isaac THOMPSONs that fit the timeframe 1. Christened October 19 1794 s/o William and Jane Chipping Sodby 2. Born September 15, 1795 s/o William and Anne Hawkesbury Hillsley St. Baptist 3. Christened December 1790 s/o Samuel and Jane Hawkesbury. Why do we believe that 3 is correct, despite the birthdate discrepancy? Can anyone remember? Doug Thompson

Listers may well have noticed that from time to time we are given tremendous insight into the life of the village our ancestors came from from a lady we only know as "Anne" who uses the email address AS11648@aol Who is our annoymous helper ? Could she perhaps be an Anne Patricia STINCHCOMB(E) or even a Patricia Anne ? Was she born on the 11th of June 1948 ? If so happy birthday or maybe she has American links and was born on the January the 16th. Will she reveal all ? or will she remain our anonymous guardian angel ? Time may tell Geoffro The Pond Dipper -

    3. Hi Thanks for replys there were at least 4 Isaac CHAPPELL's in hawkesbury at same time the father and son are the one's I have initial interest in but I think because of this there seems to be a lot of confusion . As I see it Isaac b.1795 Oldbury On Hill senior moves to Hawkesbury he has a son Isaac with his wife Jane and four other children, There is also another Isaac born at Hawkesbury circa 1779 and a child born to Mary CHAPPEL and father George WIMBOW also named Isaac CHAPPEL, Based on the fact I know the Isaac senior was b.1795 he must have married about 1818 his son Isaac was born 1820 I know this to be his son because in census they live next door to each other at 7 & 8 the Row and senior has grandson Henry CHAPPELL in house at time of census, and birth dates tally. Isaac junior is listed as having parents Isaac & Jane hence I know of Jane in 1849 Isaac junior marries Ann TAVINDER at Hawkesbury, but just to confuse matters Isaac senior marries Elizabeth Gingell. In 184! 1 cencus Jane has either run off with a fancy man or died as she is not living with Isaac senior. in later cencus Isaac and son are at Tresham in different houses Isaac senior is namning his wife Bessey (Elizabeth).later Isaac junior's son William is living in Park St Hawkesbury married to Annie Elizabeth WHITE. Nice to see Hawkesbury on PC again Robert.

    3. Robert I have Isaac CHAPPEL married to Ann TAVENDER at Hawkesbury on 11 October 1849. From the 1851 census, they would appear to have had a son George born about September 1850. In 1881, they were living at High Street, Hawkesbury, with Isaac recorded as a farm labourer. Living with them was a son James [age 23, Boot maker, born Hawkesbury]. Ann TAVENDER was baptised 29 September 1822, the youngest daughter of John Tavender and Hester nee COTES. She was the sister of my gt-gt-grandmother Elizabeth TAVENDER who married (1) Thomas Cooper and (2) Charles TOGHILL. Does that make sense with what you have got? I have other information about the TAVENDER children which I would be happy to pass on. What names do you have for other children of Isaac and Ann? When do you think Isaac married Elizabeth GINGELL? In the 1881 census, Isaac says he was born at Hawkesbury, as he did in 1851. 3. It is about time you lot heard from me. My apologies if I have been neglecting you. Have been up to my eyes in Australina paperwork and have as a result severe eye, head, neck and eveything else ache. Wallet ache too at the end of the month when the phone bills start arriving. Anyway to business - Hi Robert hope you and yours are well. Each time I phone your fax kicks in. Isaac according to the 51 census is not a youngster. So it is possible that it is he that married Ann MILLS at Hawkesbury on the 16th of June 1821. The next marriage is in 1849 at Hawkesbury so hopefully this will give you her fathers name. Next up Eliza (boy I have had fun with this lot this afternoon). The online IGI under the Hawkesbury "C" batch number gives a christening of the 14th Feb 1836 as a child of Isaac and Elizabeth GINGELL. Now I have a feeling from memory that the vicar at Hawkesbury at the time was in the habit of putting the mothers maiden name in the register. Fortunately Eliza was fairly easy to find in 1881 where she was living with her husband George and their children at Hainses, (Berkeley) Hamfallow (and before you ask I've no idea where that is). The online IGI gives the marriage date as 22nd February 1860 at Berkeley. That marriage certificate will of course give you her dad's name (hopefully though he is dead by then he won't just be recorded as deceased). So its become a job of tracking down an Isaac GINGELL on the death registers and with a bit of luck he will have survived into the summer of 37 when registration came in. More parish register searchers after that looking for the marriage. Maybe his tombstone if there is one will have a clue. Now this is where my brain really starts to wake up......Is Jane GINGELL really a GINGELL ? Is she perhaps Jane CHAPPELL and a niece or other relative of some sort to Isaac CHAPPELL. There is an Jane CHAPPELL christened in 1838 who isn't at home with her parents in 1851. I wonder if this could be one of Gordon's transcription errros. We know there are some. It could be a enumerators error. Or something else. Hope all this gives you some clues Robert. Happy Hunting Geoffro The Pond Dipper
