    1. [[Hawks]] Reposting of Interests
    2. Geoff Brightman
    3. I suppose that it is time The Pond Dipper reposted his interests which are quite simple and starightforward. Anybody and everybody who has links to the THOMPSONs which at this stage includes, STINCHCOMBE, TANDY, ARTHURS, CARTER, CHAPPELL, TOWNSEND, HUNT, SHIPWAY, GULWELL, BAKER, ILES, RODWAY, and a whole load more. I am currently looking at the HAYWARDs to see if they are linked to my HAYWARDs of whom George was Curate at Chipping Sodbury before 1800 as was his father before him. George married Charlotte Elizabeth NICHOLLS at Chipping Sodbury in 1797. I have this morning updated the http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk web pages and included a photograph of St. Mary's Church. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    1. [[Hawks]] reposting interests
    2. At Geoffro's request I am reposting my Hawkesbury connections. Happy 90th anniversary, so to speak! 42 subscribers, as per Douglas Adams wasn't 42 the ultimate answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything? Let's hope. My g-g-grandparents George WOOLNOUGH and Mary Ann HAREWELL are supposed to have eloped together from her father's inn, the Trouble House just outside Tetbury. They were married in Bristol in 1835, then show up in Hawkesbury in 1837 where their first son William was christened. George's brother Robert married Mary Ann's cousin Eliza SPIRE in 1836, and also lived in Hawkesbury where their firstborn was christened the same day as William. Both brothers are shown as innkeepers on the baptism records. I suspect they were at the "New Inn". George and Mary Ann moved on to Crudwell, then Knockdown, then Oldbury-on-the-Hill. Robert and Eliza stayed until she died age 31... Robert emigrated to Australia with two of his daughters in 1852, thence to New Zealand. My main interest is in compiling a history of the families associated with the Trouble House, a project which is well along and may get into print in the next year. The work to date is posted at http://www.labscan.com/trouble/ I am also interested in the history of any of the Hawkesbury pubs. I myself am 6th generation Aussie, descended from Richard a son of George and Mary Ann, as well as sundry Scottish free-settlers, English convicts and Irish revolutionaries. Others of their kids moved to Germany in the 1870s and co-founded a major engineering firm, Dehne of Halberstadt. Hundreds of descendants now live on 4 continents. Cheers from New York... Ken Murray

    3. On June the 1st the 90th day of this lists existence membership reached 42. Our highest to date. With so many new listers - including Cousin Moira HUGHES from Aus - it is time to repost your interests. Ed Tily owner of the GLS list asked listers to tell a bit of themselves some weeks ago and this proved successful in helping those listers with their researches. So as well as listing your Hawkesbury interests how about telling us about your other links with the village, were you born there, do you live there now, did you grow up looking at the Hawkesbury monument through your bedroom window ? Did you use the gravestones as stepping stones in your back garden as one lister did ? Remember all SURNAMES must be in capitals. I am trying to get the new web pages up. Bear with me. Remember to elt me know if you want a link. Happy Hunting Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    3. Following Robert MILLARDs post earlier this week about Fred THOMPSON, bells started ringing in Geoffro's head. Lo and behold in the sole surviving filing cabinet in the front room (Dawn has made me get rid of 2) I found some old notes of a christening I couldn't read in 1900 which led me to a pic of a gravestone and to Fred's son Ron THOMPSON who today lives in Yate. Fred was the base born son of Elizabeth THOMPSON born 1878 and William (?) BALL. Mr. BALL was from one of the Sodbury's. Does anybody know of these people. Fred's mum was Lavina Irene TOWNSEND born about 1901. Do we have any TOWNSEND researchers on this fantastic list ????? Ron THOMPSON is 4th cousin to Dawn and Doug and Marilyn and also a cousin to Cousin Bob but I haven't worked that one out yet. Thank you Robert. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. Hi Kaye and List, I haven't done anything on this little branchlette for years, I was just entering something else on the computer, and there they were. I have not sighted the marriage, cannot remember even where I got it from - I keep better records now. The interesting thing is that Annie, the child born in Australia, married an Edwin HORNE, and another one of the Wicks family married a Charlotte Reeves HORNE. It is just a continuation of all sorts of interlinking within the family. Now, HORNE isn't another name from around Hawkesbury, is it??? I have been in contact with Ian, and yes, Hannah WICKS is another direct ancestor of mine. I now have as much as I know about this VAISEY/WICKS/SARGEANT group on two pages at http://www.netspace.net.au/~kapana/Wicks.html/ http://www.netspace.net.au/~kapana/Vaisey.html/ There is a link there, too, to the Bussorah Merchant, the ship they arrived on. When I find a chance, I will try and put up a passenger list, as Geoofro tells me at least the Thompsons were on there as well. There may be other links. The really interesting thing is that the WICKS and VAISEY families came to Australia to join another part of at least one of their families (the wives were first cousins), but I have never been able to pin down who it was. This HAM family is a possibility. Cheers Linda >Did you find out anything useful on this? I would like to add them to my >index too. 3. Thank you for that information Robert, I think Fred senior was probably the Fred THOMPSON who died 3rd April 1974 aged 73. His wife was Lavina Irene who died Oct 1993 aged 92. The questions are What was the maiden name of Eva, Fred PAYNE's wife ? What was Fred seniors father called ? What more do you know of Ron ? Cheers Geoffro The Pond Dipper
