    3. Adrian wrote >>>I also have a copy of the LDS British Vital Records CD which also covers Sherston Magna and this contained 41 THOMPSON marriages, 126 THOMPSON baptisms, 7 MILLARD marriages and 14 MILLARD baptisms. <<< Which goes to prove that the MILLARDs were either an ungodly lot or not as fertile as the THOMPSONs. And yes Robert I do have the BVRI so when are you visiting ???? Also listers who can get here who want to view the 1841, 1891 and various other fiches I have at home including the Hawkesbury burials 1813 - 1884 (which I am indexing for the FreeReg project) feel free to do so. 3. I've only just recently been looking through the Bishops Transcripts for Sherston Magna in Wiltshire which is about 5.6 miles from Hawkesbury. This is probably of interest to Geoffro and Robert because I noticed a fair few THOMPSON's and MILLARD's. I also have a copy of the LDS British Vital Records CD which also covers Sherston Magna and this contained 41 THOMPSON marriages, 126 THOMPSON baptisms, 7 MILLARD marriages and 14 MILLARD baptisms. I just thought I would mention that Hawkesbury is VERY close to the border with Wiltshire. To-day it is but one parish away. I know of several people to-day in the village who married people from Sopworth which is I believe over the border and is just as close as Wickwar. This is just a thought and might be useful if you cannot find people in Gloucestershire. Anne ============================== Search ALL of RootsWeb's mailing lists in real time. 1. [[Hawks]] William HOBBS
    2. P&M Jewell
    3. Hi This is my first posting to this list. I'm hoping someone might have some info on William Hobbs living in Hawkesbury at the time of the 1851 census (according to Gordon Beavington). HOBBS William 35 Carter Millers Wotton under Edge Ann 32 Pembroke Cary I believe he could be my 4xg uncle. I have a baptism for William in 26 Dec 1821 along with three other sibling (no dates of birth unfortunately) parents William and Ann (loads of William's in this family!). I have his second marriage to Hannah HATTON at Ozleworth. He was a bailiff at Newark Park when he died 15 Apr 1876. Does anyone have anything on him, I don't have any details of his first marriage or any children from this marriage either. Any help would be much appreciated. Marcia Jewell Crudwell, Wiltshire

We have our first living STINCHCOMBE member of the list. Welcome John. 3. Dear Adrian, I don't know if you saw my message thanking you for giving me the clue about ROBERT and BETTY, as I couldn't remember who had told me, well talk about fate, I was just sitting looking at the screen, waiting for my e-mails to come through, when I looked up and the message highlighted was yours telling me about Wickwar and the IGI!!!! Now that's spooky!!! I'm so glad that I found you in my inbox, (I kept your message and even flagged it, but of course forgot why I'd flagged it!!!) I will have to tidy up the Mail boxes! I went to the GRO last week and lo and behold there it was in the WICKWAR Parish Records! Anyway, thanks so much for the clue, and I now have a photostat of the marriage of ROBERT DAVIS and ELIZABETH LIMBRICK. Thanks also for taking the trouble to look in the Hawkesbury Records and the IGI. I'm now looking for the marriage of JOB DAVIS and ANN ? .......if you happen to see them anytime I'd be most grateful...... I know... I put on good nature!!!! 3. Dear Listers, Someone on one of these lists gave me a clue about ROBERT DAVIS marrying BETTY in WICKWAR in 1781. I have just come back from Gloucester GRO and I found that very marriage. I'm so pleased, but cannot remember who sent the message, so I am sending this "THANK YOU " to the GLOUCESTER and HAWKS. Lists, hoping that you recognize yourself, and you know that I have followed your lead. Thank You!! Regards and thanks to all on the lists, you are all so very kind, helping where you can. Carry on the good work! Mavis Williams, Flintshire.

    3. Dear Anne, Many thanks for your message, and taking the time to let me know "how the land lies there", it is so much easier to try to figure out where your ancestors might have been, if you know about the parishes. It gives a better perspective on things then. Many thanks for this info. 3. That's the way it happens! Wickwar is less than 5 miles from Wickwar and many marriages took place between people in the two villages, so I expect you've got the right pair. There's no rush about Hester. I'll be up there one day. Brian -----Original Message----- From: Mavis Williams [mailto:MotherMave@jfandm.freeserve.co.uk] Sent: 09 June 2000 00:05 To: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [[Hawks]] Re: [[Hawks]] RE: [[Hawks]] Re: [[Hawks]] Reposting of Interests Dear Brian, I have just come back from Gloucester, and visiting the GRO there, if only I'd have known I could have looked, although I try to pick up on any DAVIS, regardless of where they are from and whatever period of time. I found out 20 minutes before I came away that there were more Parish registers to look at, but the original registers and not the microfiche, well it was too late, I had run out of time. I will just have to go again. If I see Hester I will make a note and I may have written her down in my notes anyway, but there are reams of them, so I can't promise anything. ROBERT DAVIS and BETTY married in 1781 in WICKWAR, which I believe is not far from Hawkesbury, and as I have only just found this marriage, I have to convince myself that it's the right one, but it is the most likely, as I surely couldn't find it on the Badminton and Hawkesbury Parish records on the microfiche, unless of course it's on the Original Parish records, I presume that they wouldn't be the same as the microfiche, (if you catch my drift). I just hope there weren't two ROBERT DAVIS's and two BETTY's marrying at about the same time. Their first child was born 1786, that's what I've just found out and there were 5 altogether, JOB being born the 3rd child, of course there could have been more, even stillborn or miscarriages. Sorry to ramble, but you know how it is, if you think there is a connection, you want to give as much info. as possible, but not bore you. (I think I have just done that!!! sorry!)
