I have a new e-mail address so I am going to unsubscribe on this address and re-subscribe on new one. Will be reposting my interests at that time so as not to confuse anyone with the address change. New address for future reference is: khdavies@freewwweb.com) Regards to all from Canada Karen Davies

    3. Here are all the Taverners (various spellings) in the 1881 census who live in the area and have a Hawkesbury connection - there are a heap more in the county and in the south west as a whole, many in and around the Glos border - my family (as Bob knows) includes some of these. I can get the full listing tomorrow if need be (569 individuals!) - but I can only do it in a lunch hour when my colleague loans me her desktop (with the census installed) and when I don't have a meeting ... 3. Hi Pat Thanks for your message. I do not know how George TAVENDER and Harry Victor COOPER may link in to my own TAVENDER and COOPER families, but there could well be a connection. The 1851 census for Tresham has the following entry: TAVENDER George 50 Ag Lab Hullavington Hannah 43 Hawkesbury William 23 Ag Lab Hawkesbury George 15 Ag Lab Hawkesbury I do not know if George is connected to the other Hawkesbury TAVENDERS - it could have been that his parents happened to be in Hullavington at the time of his birth (Hullavington is in Wiltshire, but only about 8 miles - 13 km - from Hawkesbury) Baptisms of children from the parish registers are as follows: William - bap Hawkesbury 17 June 1827 Reuben - bap Hawkesbury 8 September 1833 George - bap Hawkesbury 1 November 1835 Mary - bap Hawkesbury 20 May 1838 - buried 15 January 1847, age 9 months John - bap Hawkesbury 20 May 1838 Is George TAVENDER listed in the 1881 census - can someone check? And now one for Geoffro Thanks for your note about the baptism of Martha Ann child of James and Ann COOPER on 11 July 1858. That seems like the one I was looking for. Could you check your burials for Sarah Jane COOPER? She was baptised on 25 December 1842 at Hawkesbury, the daughter of Thomas COOPER and Elizabeth nee TAVENDER. Sarah Jane had an illegitimate son Edward (born 14 Feb 1876), but I have not found her in 1881. Edward was still living with his grandparents at Beaconsfield House (Where was that?) in 1891. 3. One of the benefits of being The Pond Dipper is that when new members get confused and post messages to the subscribe address I get to see the information first. As happened with newly found Cousin Helga. Helga is the daughter of Lorna May SHIPWAY who in tunr was daughter of John Joseph SHIPWAY son of Arthur Edmund SHIPWAY whose father John SHIPWAY (2) married Wilmott Melhuish THOMPSON. Takura is about 15k from Hervey Bay, and 30k from Maryborough. Thats about it for now. More will follow. If you are in the UK enjoy the weather whilst it lasts. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    3. Hi Geoffro and All, Sorry about the wrong address. I would like to say it was because of the excitement of hearing from you all, but the truth is, I'm pretty much the novice where computers are concerned. Which leads me to GEDCOM files - - I have heard of them, but -- It would be great if you could call me Geoffo, I don't know the international access no. for Australia, but my Tel No. is 07 41 286 217. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards, Helga.

    3. To Bob Lawrence and other TAVENDER/TAVENER and COOPER researchers: I am still wading through over 400 e-mails that greeted me on my return from the U.K. nearly two weeks ago, most of them from the Hawkesbury list. I gave out information from the memoriam cards I have, a few months ago and thought I'd repeat these two in case we also have some new list members researching the names. To remind you, these cards had been sent to my FRANKCOM relatives who emigrated to Canada from Hawkesbury. George TAVENER d. 8 April, 1888 aged 88 years. interred Tresham Churchyard April 14th. Harry Victor COOPER d. 24 October 1893 aged 5 years and 11 months. I do not know of any link to my family with the TAVENERS - perhaps they were friends. My only known link with the COOPER family is with the marriage of Mary Jane COOPER to my g-grandfather's brother Frederick Richard POOLE (g-grandfather William POOLE m. Mary FRANKCOM) at Hawkesbury in 1866. Hope this info. is useful to someone. Regards, Pat Adair

    3. Hi Linda, Helga et al Kaye PURNELL kindly sent me a full list of those on board the Busorrah Merchant in 1839. I am sure she wouldn't mind me passing it on to you so I will mail her in a moment. Takura , Queensland has the postcode 4655 according to http://www.Whitepages.com A search for Takura phone numbers gives 2 in Maryborough postcode 4650. This of course means nothing to me. I guess we will have to wait for Helga to wake up. Hopefull she will be an early riser as it is almost 6am. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    3. Hello Helga!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My people, the VAISEYs and WICKS were on the Bussorah Merchant in 1839 as well. And Mrs Hannah/Anna VAISEY was a BALLARD. So there are all sorts of connections with this mob on this list. Except we haven't been able to find them yet. I have put the surgeon's report for the journey up on my website at http://www.netspace.net.au/~kapana/ship.html but have always berated myself because I didn't get a full passenger list. Well, it was twenty-odd years ago when I found it, and I was young then. If anyone has the full passenger list, I am quite happy to put it up on the site. I suspect there may have been others from the area on the voyage. But I have to admit it - where is Takura??? You don't even make it into my postcodes listing. Does anyone know what Dan THOMPSONs wife was called. What happened to his son ? Were there more children. Many thanks for the will details and the NZ THOMPSOn Adrian. They are now in the files. Takura is in Queensland. There are 2 STEN listings. Neither with an H. I guess Helga must be getting ready for bed as it is now 10pm there. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    3. What a fantastic weekend for Hawkesbury family history researchers. Of which more in a minute. But first a slight correction to my earlier mail a pointed out by cousine Doug. I shoudl have written Henry William being the son of Samuel who is Daniels brother. William Henry THOMPSON is of course the son of Daniel THOMPSON. And continuing with Daniel. The village shop is now effectively next door to where it used to be on High Street. The sign above the shop read H D THOMPSON. Villagers remember the Lord mayor of Hawkesbury Dan THOMPSON. Dan died in abt 1950. We were given a copy of a pic of him today taken just before he died at his home Hawkesbury House whcih is opposite the shop. Herbert Daniel THOMPSON died July 1952. Herbert Daniel was the son of William Henry son of Daniel. William Henry married Sylvester HUNT. Supplying the photographs was the nephew of Lillian THOMPSON, Edward BUTLER who still lives in the village. Edward BUTLER was son of Albert son of Edwin son of William. William BUTLER married Anne THOMPSON. Anne's sister Mary Jane THOMPSON married Daniels brother Edward THOMPSON. Plans are afoot for a family history event later in the year. Many thanks to Robert MILLARD (The Grave Robber) for providing the transportation which made all the above possible and to his Auntie Doris for having such wonderful photographs. I will be posting info about the History Society later tonight. Geoffro The Pond Dipper

    3. Almost 15% of members of the list attended last nights meeting of hawkesbury Local History Society including Anonymous Anne. After an extremely interesting presentation on Bristol's links with the slave trade listers moved on to the Beaufort Arms to discuss serious matters. The Pond Dipper was extremely fortunate to meet the present inhabitants of what is believed to be the cottage that Daniel THOMPSON was living in in 1881 who have the deeds and have invited Mr and Mrs Pond Dipper round. Interestingly this part of High Street appears to be called Ricks Terrace in the 1891 census. Living at No. 1 is Daniels widow (the 2nd wife), at No. 2 is John RICKS who married Daniels sister Mary THOMPSON and next door again is Henry William THOMPSON, Daniels son. No. 3 may be the cottage that Daniel occupied in 1881. Photographs were taken last night and on a surprise visit on Thursday dinnertime. I hope to be able to update and upgrade the web pages this weekend. Further photographs will be taken this pm and hopefully some old photographs will be identified. Today is a village fair. My apologies for not letting people know in advance but I didnt find out the details until last night. So if you want to visit the village hall between noon and 5pm today you better get a move on.
