I should say is NOW reproduced by Rod Neep (sorry!) ... and the Wiltshire project has closed - the bbok was sold before Rod raised the money - but he is now trying for a set of 1844 Pigot's including Gloucestershire - please take a look!! The Pigot's 1830 directory is not reproduced by Rod Neep on a CD at a cost of £11-67. He is looking for indexers to help index it - I did 10 pages and posted some of the stuff local to Hawkesbury to this list about 6 weeks ago - the indexes are being made available to subscribers as they are completed. There is actually a new site for this now - http://www.archivecdbooks.com/books/index.htm As a personal plug Rod is looking for subscribers for a Wiltshire directory - he won't be able to afford it until he has 50 subsribers - go take a look! >>>>>Geoffro did volunteer to do a lookup one time but that was before all those wills turned up - I think I may have missed the boat !! :-)) OUCH........lol Its still on my list but having just checked the fiche neither of them are there. So it is a case of going through the registers of Hawkebury and surrounding parishes to see if a christening crops up or perhaps a quicker way would be getting into the BMD indexes which are not unfortunately at Gloucester Record Office as they are both post 1837. Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk
I had intended to do this myself, but it looks as though a trip to Gloucester is a long way away, so here's hoping: Are Bastardy Bonds difficult to locate and look up? I wondered, if it wasn't too onerous, if someone could check out the following 2 people on a visit to the GRO - Emily Jane HULBERT born to Grace HULBERT in 1847 and Edwin John HULBERT born to Grace in 1849. I have Edwin in the census of 1851 living with John and Sarah PITT of Hillesley, listed as "grandson". Geoffro did volunteer to do a lookup one time but that was before all those wills turned up - I think I may have missed the boat !! :-)) Marilyn Milton Keynes
A timely reminder from Geoffro, as I have just found another branch of my family and I have referred them here to do more research. I'm sure when Vivienne is more used to her new Email she will be along and registering. - In the meantime we are both looking for HULBERT - first in Hawkesbury 1819 when George from Biddestone/ Yatton Kennall married Ann COOK, daughter of Samuel Cook and Ann STINCHCOMBE. Vivienne is descended from Grace HULBERT, I am descended from James HULBERT, 2 of the offspring - we are looking for in particular any hint as to the life of Samuel and George both born 1820s, and then Richard's wife, and his family, born in the 1860s. Hello Bob I was on the telephone to one of the old boys from Tresham last evening and he said there is no Box Cottage in Tresham and never has been in his lifetime (70+ years). Phonetically similar there is a Rocks Cottage that was built with help of the remains of an old cow shed in the side of a hill which had been quarried. Dave | <Next. Robert, Thank you for giving me the directions for what was once the White Horse. It is interesting that it has been in the Watts family because William Gunning's daugther who it the sister of my wife's great-grandmother was Emily Gunning and she married a George Watts. The family records say that George Watts was born about 1863 but they do not say where. There are a lot of George Watts born about that time who are in the 1881 census and so I have not been able to work out which one he might be. Now that you mention that there is a Watts family in Hawkesbury it makes me wonder if he is the 19 year old Thrashing Machine Driver, son of Ann Watts, Quarry Owner, a widow with a large family, living at Starvall, Hawkesbury. I know that in later years George Watts was a tenant farmer at Old Farm, Hasfield. He and Emily are buried at Hasfield churchyard. I wonder if Derick Watts is related to George Watts? - Ed Edward Coates Sinker Church Lea Bosbury, Herefordshire HR8 1PX UK
I would love to hear of any photographs of the Blue Boy when it was a public house as I lived there for some years. Anne
Hi Edward Re The White Horse If you wanted to find it in Hawkesbury follow Back Street from war memorial untill you come to a farm on left the White Horse is the white house you then have to in effect go around to carry on down back lane it has been the family home of Derick WATTS who has the farm who is an active member of the Hawkesbury history society, I have been promised a photo of Ernest CHAPPELL stood out side it, a rare thing as he was usualy inside! when I get it I'll let the Dipper have a copy to post on the Hawkesbury page.Didn't know Frank STINCHCOMBE was the landlord there he was probably the last. regards Robert ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edward Sinker" <Edward@sinker.greatxscape.net> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 11, 2000 9:47 PM Subject: [[Hawks]] The White Horse > Hi Geoff, > > Sorry about forgetting to put a subject for my query. > > Thank you for letting me know that the White Horse is no longer > a pub.
