I am looking for a Elisa or Eliza WHITE who was born in Hawksbury Upton around 1855/56, if anyone can help me find her or any of her family I would be very grateful Cynthia
Hi Geffro How can I contact you OFF list ? Tony Downend Bristol UK
Does anybody know the wherabouts or any details of residents/owners of Pike Farm at Hawkesbury ? Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk
Please would SKS give me the URL for the TETBURY Parish Register. I forgot to save it. Thanks, Jocie McBride
Hi Edward, this is indeed very interesting for my searches as we have recently found that 2 of our relies were born in Newport Mon but censured in 1881 in Yate Glos. These were Edward Robert SHIPP b.1876 son of Henry SHIPP & Robert Edward KING b.1876 gson of Robert Neale SHIPP. We are assuming gson means grandson, especially in view of the christian names, but of course it could mean godson. I know Newport isnt exactly North Wales, but would you mind having a look for SHIPP families there for me please. Hi, I don't know if this has been discussed before or not. I have noticed that there seemed to be a number of Hawkesbury residents or people who lived in the area who migrated to North Wales in the last century. I just noticed on the Buckley Society web page: http://www.buckleysociety.org.uk/society.htm That there is a Hawkesbury Community Centre in Buckley which is located in Flintshire. Is anyone aware of how the community centre got this name? - Ed Edward Coates Sinker Church Lea Bosbury, Herefordshire HR8 1PX UK
We now have 75 list members. That does not include the half dozen or so that are temporarily unsubscribed due to holidays etc. I would be grateful if those listers who attended the Get Together could mail me (off list if they want) and let me know what we got right, what we got wrong, what we forgot etc etc. Please be as brutally honest as you need to be. Pond Dippings will not be incurred. Next years Get Together cannot be improved upon if we do not learn from this one. Do not worry about upsetting me...you won't. Hello Anne Many thanks for reply,Think you have hit the location "SPOT ON".Can now take a car trip to have a look around. The location you have given me ,fit nicely,As the Mary Ann PERRET b 1861,I,m looking for was born in Wickwar & when she married lived in Hawksbury untill 1895.So, as I say, finding that Calcott is only a few miles from Wickwar & Hawksbury ,it now completes her life cycle ,from 1861 to her demise in 1936.Now I can start looking for her parents. . Hope I can return the favour ,some time. Regards Tony Downend Bristol UK
Tony, I am happy to help. As you probably know I have no roots in Hawkesbury although my daughter who is now 12 was born in Blueboy House so she is a "true" villager. My researching is in the counties of Notts/Derbys and my children researching their father's side of the family are concentrating on Wilts/Berks/Bristol/South Wales. Best of luck with your research, are you coming to the do on the 30th Sept? Anne
For those of you who were not lucky enough to attend the Get Together a new page has been added to the web pages. The link is on the front page. You may need to reset your history folder for it to display. Please give the page a chance to fully load before scrolling down. I can only add more pictures etc of people send them to me. Hello from Australia via Hawkesbury, I'm sure you must have checked this out already but I would have thought that you could find the STOKES in Norfolk on the LDS CD for the 1851 census of that county. Unfortunately I don't have a copy but I'm sure other listers would have. Best of luck. Cheers, Roderick Cooper. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ted & Shirley Wackerle <wackerle@parrett.net> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2000 9:19 AM Subject: [[Hawks]] STOKES Family > > > Hello, > Hawkesbury list is the best list I have ever joined. Sometime during the next 48 hours the new web pages will go online. It is now just a case of waiting for the servers redirection software to work. During the switchover there may well be a loss of the individual researchers page as I am still in the process of redesigning and rebuilding this. However the names being researched pages are now up and running and contain over 80 email links. In future any visitor to this part of the site will be able to send a simultaneous email to all those of you who have informed me OFF list that you want to be included in these mails. Basically what will happen is that a mail will come to me from the visitor. My software will then forward that mail to all of you who have OPTED IN for those SURNAMES. In addition the visitor will get an email from me telling them that their mail has been forwarded. This NEW service is designed to reduce my worklaod and to actually get around to replying to some of your emails that havent been answered this past week. The new Individual researchers page will include details fo each researcher and the names they are researching and a short biog if you wish. The links on this page will be to your own web pages or email address. Again you have to opt in to this servcie by mailing me OFF list. The NEW and IMPROVED country sections for the descendants of Hawkesbury are still be refined although the New Zealand section should be live when the switch over occurs. Photographs of last weeks Hawkesbury Show will be accessible from a link oin the new front page as are many NEW links to research resources. Hope to alk soon Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk
Having just read others e-mails on this subject and noted the Calcott Preston it occured to me that Park Farm, Beverston is owned by Mr. B.N. Preston. Is this a co-incidence or not?? Anne
There is also a Calcot situated at the junction of the A46 and A4135 (Dursley to Tetbury road). It is only a hamlet and would not appear on any map. It is close to Babdown airfield (now disused) and Beverston (where there is Beverston Castle, home of Mrs. Jean Rook who is the widow of Major Rook). Calcot currently consists of a row of cottages, a farm and Calcot Manor which is a rather up market hotel/restaurant. Hope this helps, Anne
Hi Ted, Shirley & everyone else I have the LDS 1851 census index for Norfolk, and have re-learnt how to use it. I checked for the name STOKES, but is seems very rare in Norfolk, and there are no listing for anyone either born in or living at Shereford with a name anything like STOKES. I also checked under the spelling Sherford, and also for Sheffield, but also without success. To keep some Hawkesbury connection, I did find the following: Daniel WILLIS Head M 58 M Gardener Hawkesbury-GLS Elizabeth WILLIS Wife M 44 F Laundress Stroud-GLS Elizabeth WILLIS Daur U 17 F Dressmaker Wotton Under Edge-GLS Racheal WILLIS Daur U 16 F --- Wotton Under Edge-GLS Daniel WILLIS Son - 11 M Errand Boy Wotton Under Edge-GLS William WILLIS Son - 10 M Scholar Wotton Under Edge-GLS Thomas WILLIS Son - 9 M Scholar Wotton Under Edge-GLS George SMITH Vist U 42 M Cardwiner Stroud-GLS Address: 10 Sun Street, Birmingham Census Place: Birmingham Birmingham, Warwickshire PRO Reference: HO/107/2052 Folio: 685 Page: 5 FHL Film: 0087310 If you wonder what a cardwiner is, try saying cordwainer with a Brummie accent. This CD was done as a pilot for the 1881 census index, and covers Norfolk, Warwickshire and Devon.
