Hello Ted of Michigan I have been trying to respond to your off-list message of the 3rd September but my reply keeps getting returned as somewhere along the line it is being identified as spam. Now the information that I've tried to pass on may not be earth-shattering but to describe it as spam may be a little too harsh. Any idea as to how to reach you off-list? Cheers Roderick ( Perth, Western Australia )
The Hawkesbury page of Kelly's 1923 directory is now available on the web pages through a link from the front page. Thanks to Anonymous Anne who scanned it in as payment for me rolling aroudn on her livign room floor and to Cousin Dou who did the necessary to make it available to you all. Geoffro
I have another Gabriel AMOS bap 1671 Yate married 1708 Westerleigh to Deborah Dando from Rangeworthy. Children: Martha, Isaac, Abraham, Jacob, Anne, Mary & Stephen. Who was it that was interested in the AMOS name? Lesley Dawson (Mrs.)

Geoff Just a note to thank you for all that information about the will of John COOPER. It makes the whole thing even more interesting, and means it might be useful to look at tithe apportionments for Wickwar, Kingswood, Yate, etc, since the properties could well be identifiable. If things worked out as John COOPER intended, and the properties and wealth remained in the family, then perhaps this could begin to explain how my grandmother could have died in a terrace house in Portsmouth in 1919 leaving £450. It was some residue of the estate of her gt-grandfather's brother. Bob

Hi List Thanks to my cousin Doug Thompson, hi Doug, and the reminder that Sam Pincott had married Abigail Curtiss at Iron Acton (sorry was not subscribing to the list nor GLS then) I have had a quick peep at the online IGI, yet to be confirmed by other sources of course, now find that Abigails father is probably John Curtis who married Abigail Hulance at Horton 7.4.1763, number of other persons of like surnames at Horton and Hawkesbury, notice Curtiss is mentioned in the researchers list on the Home Page, is that you Geoffro. Anyhow thanks for the lead in makes a change from my current work where all people were known by patronymics. Tony
Hi Janet, Knew I had some AMOS info somewhere. I have Gabriel AMOS m Mary WINSTONE then son Gabriel AMOS m Anne SMITH 1746 they had children Isaac, Anne, James, Gabriel, Betty and Gabriel and Mary Are they yours ? Geoffro
Hello Anne, I don't know a great deal about Saddlewood though I do know that Daniel ISLES farmed 513 acres there in 1851. My ancestor Francis FRANKCOM was one of 18 labourers and lived in a thatched house with his family quite close to the main house. I believe it was built around 1691. A Canadian member of the family visited the farm in 1963 (I have photos from the turn of the century and at that time) and the house was still there but when I visited in 1996 it had gone and had been replaced by a new one where the housekeeper of the present owner of the big house lived. While the owner was away in London at the time he kindly arranged for his housekeeper to show us around the house and farm. Francis FRANKCOM's children were all born at Saddlewood between 1843 and 1866 and his daughter Mary (my great-grandmother)was 'of Saddlewood' at the time of her marriage to William POOLE in 1871. Three children were born at Tresham and Winterbourne then in 1879 my grandmother Elizabeth was born at Saddlewood. Whether the family were still living in the original house, I don't know. By 1887 when Francis FRANKCOM died he was living at Tresham where generations before him had lived. If you can tell me anything about Saddlewood Anne, I would be very grateful. Regards, Pat Adair

Hi List just enlisted yesterday after been a member of the GLS List and a correspondent with other list members through that medium Living near the sea near Swansea in Wales and being born and bred in the Principality my main research lines lie there however whilst researching my maternal side I find that apart from Tormarton, Hawkesbury is also of great interest to me throught the PINCOTT family. George PINCOTT/PYNKET circa 1580 is my 9x great grandfather and I have traced the family through the area to Samuel PINCOTT b.Hawkesbury 1748 who moved to Chipping Sodbury. Samuel married Abigail and one of their children was Ann Curtiss PINCOTT who married a member of the REED family from Tormarton. One of my puzzles is why Ann bore the name "Curtiss" perhaps someone may have the answer to that. Ann married William WOODWARD at Chippenham in 1817 and settled in Tormarton where she died in the 1870's. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has similar interests and of course share what information that I have on record. Congratulations Geoffro on setting up the new list, takes a lot of spirit, courage and planning to do that and of course a lot of hard work, wish you well for the future Best wishes Tony in a cold dank Swansea
Sorry about my previous posting. I tried to add to a previous posting and it didn't quite work! To add to it, other Hawkesbury names that I am researching are: FRANKCOM, CREWE, BRIDGES, NEALE, HANCOCK, WORKMAN of Tresham, COMPEER/COMPIER and HATHWAY and EMERSON of nearby Horton. These are all direct lines. Regards, Pat Adair, New Zealand

My grandmother Elizabeth POOLE was born at Saddlewood in 1879, daughter of William POOLE and Mary FRANKCOM (pictures of her on Geoffro's N.Z. page). Elizabeth died when my father was only 12 and I know very little about this branch of the family. She had two brothers, Richard W. and Francis William POOLE and one sister, Ellen Matilda b. 1871/2 who married Albert LOVELL in London in 1919. --------------C0BE5E50F9E83FC8354E5363 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Return-Path: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L-request@rootsweb.com> Delivered-To: paadair@p.pop.ihug.co.nz Received: (qmail 20372 invoked from network); 3 Jul 2000 09:34:41 -0000 Received: from mx1-1.ihug.co.nz (HELO mx1.ihug.co.nz) (203.29.168.196) by kate.ihug.co.nz with SMTP; 3 Jul 2000 09:34:41 -0000 Received: from lists3.rootsweb.com [63.92.80.39] by mx1.ihug.co.nz with esmtp (Exim 3.12 #1 (Debian)) id 1392cj-0005L9-00; Mon, 03 Jul 2000 21:34:41 +1200 Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists3.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id e639Xfj09240; Mon, 3 Jul 2000 02:33:41 -0700 Resent-Date: Mon, 3 Jul 2000 02:33:41 -0700 X-Original-Sender: paadair@ihug.co.nz Mon Jul 3 02:33:39 2000 Message-ID: <39605BE2.966307D4@ihug.co.nz> Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2000 21:24:50 +1200 From: paadair <paadair@ihug.co.nz> X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.06 [en] (Win98; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 Old-To: "ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com" <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: [[Hawks]] THOMAS, PITT, WILLIAMS Resent-Message-ID: <hrhfNB.A.KQC.03FY5@lists3.rootsweb.com> To: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com Reply-To: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/488 X-Loop: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L-request@rootsweb.com Resent-Bcc: I have at least three Hawkesbury families that I have done little or no research on. G'day Any interest in the family of William PULLEN and Maria BUTLER who married 7 Jan 1805 Horton GLS? There are 4 chn listed in the IGI bapt to 1812; James 1805, Thomas 1807, John 1809, Elizabeth 1811. Almost certainly also George bc1820 and my correspondent's ancestor Daniel PULLEN bc1822. Although not bapt as such this family were all known by the middle forename Bailey or Baily. On Gordon's 1851 transcript of Horton father William PULLEN and sons George and John are all shown with the middle forename Bailey/Baily; son Daniel used it in Oz and eldest son James Bailey PULLEN was so named when he died at Horton 23 Nov 1887. I suspect the use of Bailey/Baily may stem from the fact that William Bailey PULLEN bc1777 was perhaps the illegitimate son of Mary PULLEN bapt Horton 24 Aug 1777. Perhaps William BAILEY was his father - there is an appropriately aged one bapt Horton parish. Unfortunately for my correspondent the BT's for Horton past 1812 have not been filmed by the LDS and so she would need help at Gloucester R O to find an actual bapt date for Daniel. Daniel apparently came to Australia about 1856. Any interest in this family? Please note this is not my family, just an entry in my GLS Immigrants to Australia pre 1888 Index.
