After The Pond Dipper picked himself up from the floor after reading Liz's message he wrote :- Thanks Liz, The Grave Robber had me looking for that particular stone on Saturday in the freezing cold as he ahd lost his notes. I didn't spot it because we had Ellis (3 year old grandson) who now recognises his 3 x great grand daddies grave and 2nd cousin mark CRUMP with us. The Grave Robber told me not an hour an ago that he had found his notes. I love this list Geoffro The Pond Dipper Http://www.HawkesburyFamilyHistory.co.uk

    3. Hi Marilyn Another possibility is the hamlet of Charlton, just west of Tetbury, but the Filton airport one seems much more likely with the Winterbourne address. Doug

    3. Hi Likewise, seeing the interest in the STINCHCOMBE surname, I thought I should mention that I have a photograph (a .jpg file) of a STINCHCOMBE tombstone in the Hawkesbury churchyard. It is for Cornelius who died in 1872 aged 61 and his wife Frances who died 1878 aged 71 - or that is what it looks like. Happy to email a copy if anyone wants one. Also a PALSER one from the Bethesda burial ground. 3. Hi Marilyn Yes - Charlton was the village (more of a hamlet, really) that was mostly destroyed when Filton airfield was extended so that the Brabazon could take off and land. I believe that it was mostly in Henbury parish. 3. Hi Brian I'm getting to the end of linking the Hawkesbury STINCHCOMB's both to each other and with surrounding areas and Lucy still is a mystery my theory of Neahmiah starting a Yate branch of the family is incorrect it seems likely the Yate STINCHCOMBs have been there for a long time as I found a reference to William STINCHCOMBE on the Yate and Ichington subsidy roles of 1327. It might be she was of Quaker origins and the birth not in a parish register or just never recorded at all. Now that its clear the two families are at least in 1600 seperate, I'll look at the Yate family soon and see where that goes Lucy may appear in a will (fingers crossed). regards Robert Millard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Comley" <brian@bcomley.freeserve.co.uk> To: <ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 11:51 AM Subject: [[Hawks]] Lucy STINCHCOMBE b 1808 Yate GLS > Seeing the recent STINCHCOMB(E) postings I felt it was time to see if anyone > has found whether my Lucy descended from a Hawkesbury STINCHCOMB(E)? > > Lucy, from Yate; married in Bristol and lived in Wickwar, just a spit from > Hawkesbury, is my one and only STINCHCOMBE . > > Robert Millard thinks Lucy may turn out to be decended from Nehamiah who > moved from Hawkesbury to Yate in 1600's. > > Lucy STINCHCOMBE, my great great grandmother, married George REDDY on 25 Jun > 1831 at St.Phil. & St.Jac. 3. Seeing the recent STINCHCOMB(E) postings I felt it was time to see if anyone has found whether my Lucy descended from a Hawkesbury STINCHCOMB(E)? Lucy, from Yate; married in Bristol and lived in Wickwar, just a spit from Hawkesbury, is my one and only STINCHCOMBE . Robert Millard thinks Lucy may turn out to be decended from Nehamiah who moved from Hawkesbury to Yate in 1600's. Lucy STINCHCOMBE, my great great grandmother, married George REDDY on 25 Jun 1831 at St.Phil. & St.Jac. Bristol; their daughter, Lucy REDDY, born in Wickwar, married Ezekiel Holman TREVETHAN and their eldest son, Sydney Charles TREVETHAN, was my mother's father. Lucy STINCHCOMBE's birthplace and date are established as Yate, 1808 from the 1851 & 1881 census. The only Stinchcomb family producing children in Yate c.1808 were: Arthur STINCHCOMB m Charlotte BAKER (b. Yate 1792), 22 Feb 1806, Yate Their children were: Harriott STINCHCOMB b. c.27 Jul 1806, Yate (Father - Arthur; Mother - Charlotte) George STINCHCOMB b. c.26 Aug 1810, Yate, (Father - Arthur; Mother - Charlotte) Unfortunately there is no sign of Lucy, who would fit neatly between these dates. There is no Lucy Stinchcomb christening recorded in the IGI for 1808 ( +/- 10yrs). Notes on George REDDY and Lucy STINCHCOMBE: George REDDY b. c.25 Apr 1802 at Wickwar. 25 June 1831 George REDDY m. Lucy STINCHCOMBE St.Phil. & St.Jac. Bristol George and Lucy's eldest daughter, Sarah, was born in Wickwar c.1834. George was dead by 1881 (Lucy recorded as Widow in the 1881 Census). Vivian's note re Bowman(later changed to Bowson) is a complex matter perhaps we can return to later: we dont all agree about the various stories of 16c origins, and I think this one is probably about our time at Cromhall or Tortworth, which precedes our arrival in Hawkesbury. 2.The William and Elisabeth(Copestake) Stinchcomb's of Ayrshire could prove interesting-hang in there---There is a Liverpool branch of no 'e' Stinchcomb's stemming from Henry Wm S,b New Brunswick,Canada in 1824,whose wife came fom Ayrshire and they had a son Wm Henry b1859 in Ardrossan,Ayr. My hunch is that this branch moved up to Canada from Maryland where the no 'e' S's flourished from late 17c,and yes Robert is right to say they had origins in Hawkesbury, but it rather depends on just where you link into the chain. Am anxious to know more about this Wm and Eliz-at a guess they probably lived into 20c so to recent for IGI,but could be in 1881 census? A few more clues please,Vivian----we used to think that our children were the first STINCHCOMBE's(sorry, editor at this lapse) brought up in Scotland, but it seems this might be due for a rethink, john s
