Carole Wortley itself is a small hamlet astride one of many small streams that flow from the spring line half way up the Cotswold scarp in this area. They are very active little streams, responsible for carving some very deep, pretty Coombs in the scarp slope, and many of them have had water power uses over time. I looked at multimaps site to remind me, and Wortley is in the right place re: Wotton-u-Edge to be the site of a mill/ mill pond which is pictured in one of my books of the area. There are a lot of ifs and buts in that, and I'm away for a week - but if you don't get anything more constructive on/from the list by 30/10 mail me again and remind me I said this - I will check my books for relevant pictures / info!
