    1. [[Hawks]] Out of the loop
    2. Dear list, I have to change my ISP, so sadly must unsubscribe for a time. I want to say that this list has been an absolute pleasure to be part of, with such dedication and so many breakthroughs and connections. My Trouble House website will also have to move... not sure where or when just yet, but hopefully it won't be down for too many months. When it does reappear I intend to have a Hawkesbury page worthy of the name! Best wishes and thanks to the Pond Dipper et al, hope to meet with you all face to face at the Beaufort Arms one of these days..... Cheers from New York, Ken Murray researching WOOLNOUGH, HAREWELL and other owners and residents of Tetbury's Trouble House Inn

    3. Hi Den, thanks for the info. Out of all the Sarah's we have seen, this one looks most likely. What did you find her on ? The nephew who was with Martin SHIPP in 1851 was our GGrandfather & we had already found that info. 3. Hi Doug, thanks for that info. We have had quite a lot of SHIPP'S turning up lately & have connected a lot to us dating back to 1513, but this one Sarah Ann who is definitely our GGGrandmother has had us foxed for ages. The one Den told us he has found in Somerset looks the most likely so far. What have you seen the Bitton ones on, and are there many? 2. Marilyn Moffat
    3. Carole Wortley itself is a small hamlet astride one of many small streams that flow from the spring line half way up the Cotswold scarp in this area. They are very active little streams, responsible for carving some very deep, pretty Coombs in the scarp slope, and many of them have had water power uses over time. I looked at multimaps site to remind me, and Wortley is in the right place re: Wotton-u-Edge to be the site of a mill/ mill pond which is pictured in one of my books of the area. There are a lot of ifs and buts in that, and I'm away for a week - but if you don't get anything more constructive on/from the list by 30/10 mail me again and remind me I said this - I will check my books for relevant pictures / info! George WATTS, my gt grandfather was born at Wortley on 19 November 1847. His parents (now confirmed by birth certificate) were Thomas Watts (of Hawkesbury) and Emily (nee Whitfield). Thomas's occupation was Miller. In 1851, the family are at Falfield. My Pevsner (first edition) has an entry for Wortley House and I wondered whether Thomas was a miller there or was there another mill in the area? Is Wortley House still standing and does anybody know who the owners might have been in 1847 or whether there are any documents relating to employees?
